I asked for help with finding an owners manual for my newly aquired 1400 on the Shotgun forum. Within minutes I had two (thanks guys) My question is; How do you remove the magazine spring and follower? The manual does not cover this. Is this something best left to a qualified gunsmith? I have fully disassembled and cleaned the rest of the gun (and boy!! did it need it) The piston assembly and action bars all removed quite easily. And bolt removal and disassembly were all obvious and easy. However the removal of the magazine spring and follower eludes me. Given the extremely dirty condition of the rest of the inner workings. I hate to not go all the way. Any help would be much appreciated.:scrutiny:

but can't exactly remember how.
I think I pulled it out the forward end of the mag tube. It's smaller in diameter than the piston (has to be, it fits inside it), so if the piston fits out, the spring will.
I've never messed with the mag follower. It's plastic, and the two round stop is part of the tube, so it can't come out the muzzle end. The plastic bolt release lever seems like it is in the way of removal from the breech end, and it's supposed to be unfindable if you break it, so I've never messed with it.
Just scrub the walls of the mag tube with your brush and lightly (really lightly, as in, wipe off all excess with a patch) coat with gun oil. Others will disagree here, citing more rapid fouling. I just can't let metal contact metal without lubrication. I've been considering trying something like White Lightning (bicycle lube, teflon-impregnated wax in an evaporating liquid carrier) that finishes completely dry, so it doesn't attract dirt and other particles. Haven't gotten a Round Tuit yet.
