my dad has an old winshester 1897 12 gauge. seems like before it was given to him, someone was a little too rough on it. now the action is binded, it wont cycle.
the action bar is not the problem, does anyone have any detailed dissassembly guides? we have never shot this old gun, but it would be nice to repair it to working condition.
i can either make a new part, or buy one if i can figure out who to get it apart.

I got a couple 97 basket cases and made a good 97 from them.
There are ~100 parts per 1897 shotgun.
That is the most I have ever seen in a gun.
The AGI tape on 1897s is A+ helpful.

i think whatever part broke has unfortunately "jammed" the action
i need precise info on how to get the trigger assembly out of the reciever, does the stock need to be removed first?
the bolt will move, but the shell ramp/feed elevator wont move, and the barrel wont unscrew either... something im missing, or what?
the forearm seems to be completely disconnected from the bolt.
seems i need to get "creative"

Is not connected to anything.
First if the bolt will move the lifter (cartridge carrier) must be down, as that is what locks the bolt in battery.
So push the bolt all the way forward, and then see if the lifter can be pushed upwards from the bottom of the action.
I have had a couple 97's that the lifter had to be held up from the bottom, before and while the slide was being pulled rearwards.
As far as taking the lifter out, the hammer should be cocked, the slide arm disenguaged from the action, there is one screw in the side of the action just above and in front of the trigger guard that has do be removed, remove the little screw seen from the top that is beside the hammer, remove the cross pin the little screw help in place. Then slide the lifter forwards and down, it should slide right out.
The trigger guard is the last assembly to be un pinned and removed from the action when detail stripping the action!
Hope this helps!
