DAO has always seemed like the answer to a question that no one asked.

Ambi safeties on 1911s. Mine get knocked off safe occasionally, even in good holsters.

You forgot to put manual safties in that list.
<Hoot from BHD>"This is my safety, sir," while waving his finger in front of him.</Hoot from BHD>
I much prefer dao. I've never been able to get the hang of da/sa, and I don't like manual safties on sa's.

As much as I love Browning Hi-Powers, I absolutely HATE the magazine safeties on the new commercial Hi-Powers.

Well, since "porting on short-barreled defensive handguns" isn't there, I have to go with slide mounted safety.

Where to begin???
Porting, dinguses, sharp edges, wide stocks, magwells, grip condoms, sight ribs, muzzle brakes, lasers, phasers and windspeed indicators, DA/SA, squared trigger guards, trigger shoes, EXTENDED SLIDE STOP, enlarged mag releases, ejectors that have been made to drop empty near shooter, recoil buffers, ducktail grip safeties.
This is just a partial list.

Grip safety. I can't understand why these haven't been dropped from 1911's decades ago...

I voted "crossbolt" 'cause of the way it hoses the M94, but really it's more "anything the lawyers required" be it safeties, integral locks, or the Gettysburg Address stamped in the side. bleck!

I voted for Bottom of grip mag release over Slide mounted safety because with a Slide mounted safety, I can dry fire all day long. Otherwise, I hate the slide safety also. :D

"Smartguns"
Proprietary/non-standard optics/accessory mounts.
Thumbhole stocks - amen.
But most of all, tritium!!! (I hate anything that necessarily is going to wear out and become useless over a relatively short period of time, and therefore must be replaced - it's like buying gun made of wood or aluminum or something that can only withstand 100 rounds being fired before it breaks)
I LIKE squared-off trigger guards.
Though I don't necessarily LIKE grip safeties I do not, nor can I see how anyone could possibly DISlike them, as they work flawlessly and need no thought whatsover to disengage.
I see the argument for DAO. I see the argument for DA/SA. I see the argument for SAO. All have their places. I've come to like SAO best though.

1. Muzzle Brakes, I only want one on 2 guns: AK-74 and a .50BMG rifle.
2. Magazine Safetys
3. Ambi Safetys

I don't care for the transfer bar on my newer Rugers. I detest the roll-mark caution statement on the barrel of my newer Rugers. My old Ruger , as you know, is direct hammer to firing pin, and nice, clean barrel.

i hate those guns made that wont fire without the magazine inserted.
Smith an Wesson M-915
Bersa Model 95
Remington 522 viper.
i also Hate the S&W 1 piece grips on the 3rd gens
that stupid pop up part on a beretta that tells you its loaded!.
although my walther P99 has the extractor cutout painted red for a quick look to tell its loaded.........obviously its loaded its a carry gun an the 4 rules say treat it that way................DUH!
that and owners manuals that point out on everypage that used improperly will/can cause death.

While I flinched when I saw the cross-bolt safety, in reviewing the list and I saw the pros & cons to many things and did not really object to any of them. They have merit in some application. Then I saw last one, the key operated integral lock. NO. NO. NO. :( That piece of trash must go, go, go!

The trigger on Glocks - the one thing that keeps me from buying one. From the list, I'd have to say European style mag release. Who thought THAT was a good idea???
[edit] - You can't vote for grip safety, that would mean you don't like P7s :what:

DAO sucks.
My P-11 has totally soured me on DAO guns. at least give me DA/SA so I can choose...
I also hate magazine disconnect safeties (retarded) slide mounted safeties (backwards) and those goofy Euro heel release mags (only thing I dislike about my MkII)

I don't dig the key thing. How can that be effective? I guess for guns in storage it's a reasonable idea, but for a gun that you use for self defense it just doesn't seem feesible.
"FREEZE! I need to unlock my gun!" - infamous last words.

Top of my list but not on yours:
Ports on CQB handguns.
Secondary magazine safeties (as with Browning HP).
Sharp edges.

Got to say internal locks bother me almost not at all, any more than the parsley a restaurant puts on my plate next to my hamburger.
My biggest gripe, more than EVERYTHING on your list put together, is lousy triggers, ESPECIALLY trigger mechanisms whose inherent design is such that a good pull and letoff cannot be achieved.
S&W revolvers and Remington 700 rifles are notable exceptions.

European-style mag releases (bottom of the magazine) are a simple way to make the mag release ambidextrous.
It's also slow as molasses and what I voted for.
I might have voted for DA first-shot guns if that were an option. All DA is fine. All SA is better, but having two trigger pulls is unnecessarily complex.

Dorrin79 - the DAO on the P11 is truly horrid, but it's not representative of the state of the art.
Try a Kahr, one of these days.
