What would you pick? I'm debating between a Sig p220 a Sig P239 in .40 a Springfield loaded full size 1911 stainless and a S&W .357 Mag revolver prob a 686P. Gun show's at the end of the month and I cant make up my mind.

Carry gun?.....239

You live in Texas like me and you want to try to conceal a full size pistol? Of the guns you listed I would go for the SIG P239.
If it were me, for $700 you can get a Kahr P9 Covert and an alloy S&W J-frame. I just bought a NIB P9 Covert for $415 and a used airweight can be bought for around $300.

I would go with the P239 in the .40. I just bought one in 9mm and love it. With that kind of money you should be able to pick up a two tone with night sites and a nice holster. Good luck.

P239 in .40 . Got one in 9mm. What I really want next is a P228 or P229.

Saw a used Colt Concealed Carry Officer's the other day for 599, but I might put the extra two and a half bills on a creditcard and get the Kimber CDP Compact instead(or look for a used one).
Another 1911 for the growing stable!!!:D

All of your choices are good, but of the ones listed there is one that sets the standard for a carry gun that you can buy today and own until the day you drop over;
1st Choice - Sig P220
2nd Choice - Sig P220
3rd Choice - See 1st & 2nd Choice

I'm 6'2" and about 290 so concealing a full size pistol is not a problem. Even in this heat with shorts and a long tailed shirt. I'm looking at the Sigs and also a Springfield "loaded" 1911. A revolver is not out of the running yet either.
How is the 239 for large hands?

I had $700 for a new carry gun and went with a Springfield PX9109L parkerized 5" 1911. I'm way happy. It loves Winchester RA45TP, it loves my new Wilson 7-round magazines. It carries like a dream, shoots like it's begging me to get better, runs like a sewing machine and is just a great looking heater to boot.

From your choices, I'd go with the P239.
Me, I'd buy a CZ 75B and $340 worth of ammunition.

P239 .40, no contest. Great carry gun and you should have money left over for ammo and holster unless you get the two tone night sighted top of the line offering.
Chris
As much as I like the 220 the P239 just makes more carry sense.

If you are that big you are going to hate the grip on the P239. That is why I have a couple of P225's. My son likes the P239 and the Hogue rubber grip is an improvement, but he is a smaller person.

Big C,
I'm 6'3" @ 220lbs and I can palm a basket ball. I have fairly large hands but they are not "meaty". My p239 has the Hogue gripps which I think improves the feel, but if the grip was any smaller than I would not own it. I can't stand the way a gun feels when my pinky finger hangs off the bottom. I have had to modify the way I pull the trigger some, because I'm drawing my finger so far back into my palm.

For $700 you can get a Glock 26, a couple of G19 standard cap mags and maybe some practice ammo!!!
Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated!!!

Glock 26 or 27. You can get grip extentions for either and use high caps if necessary. I prefer a gun with consistant trigger pull for carry. That rules out Traditional DA pistols for me.

I have three full size semi auto's, and a small .25 S/A, and big bore and small revolvers. I'm gonna save my $700 for a Baretta CX-4 Storm Carbine in 9mm. Sometimes I think I must be positively salivating in anticipation! Can you tell I'm a little exited??!! Starpower

The new smith&wesson 1911 say what you will but its assembled with wilson as well as chip Mc parts has all the custom goodies, wison mags polished in all the right places,it cant be beat, besides if you own a kimber you have a pistol whos frame and slides are made by smith or at least the models with the external extractor, cant beat it for the money compared to what you get.

I had the same problem, but I was looking to spend up to $800.00.
I just got back home from picking up my new CZ 75B SA in 9mm. I love this gun. I can't wait until next Saturday when I get to go shoot it.
My total price out the door, including tax was $410.03. It still leaves me with plenty of money for ammo, holster, etc.
Good luck with whatever you decide to buy.

...the Beretta folks, can't ya - it's like a 92/96 was the only pistol ever made.
I'd say a 9mm Hi-Power, P239 in .357Sig or an Officer's size 1911 .45, in no particular order based upon what I didn't already have.

...and had cash, I'd find someone in "need" of cash that also had something in 9mm, 45 ACP, .38 ,.357 and not deal with paperwork. Like a K frame, 1911...sorry - just sounded as if you already have carry guns, just thinking about "future climates" also. I tend to think IN multiples, ammo, parts, 'what ifs'...Then again $700 buys Maks and bunch of cheap ammo too...so he said...err well..."rainy day"...you get the picture. ;)

How about a ParaOrd LDA CCW or Para Companion in .45 if you're looking for something you can carry? Different from Glocks and in the price range. If you're looking for something completely different, check out the lightweight 386PD, it's a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

A NEW carry gun? Well, the only one really lighting my fire right now is the promise/rumor of the new Sig "K" trigger discussed elsewhere around here.
So, untill then, I would have to do the smart thing, and buy lots of practice ammo for what I am carrying now.

If you want to go with a NEW gun I would say go with either the SW1911 if you can conceal a full size or something like a Sig P220 or SW 3913 if you want something smaller.
If you would consider used I would say get you either a USP Compact, these things are great, or maybe if you want to save some money one of the S&W Chief Specials. Seem like good carry guns and you will save some coin too.

I want to thank all of you for the ideas. Theres a gun show next weekend and I've been itching for a new pistol. Right now I'm leaning towards a 1911. I have never owned One,might have to see what all the fuss is about. ;)

I'm gonna go with the Springfield Compact Loaded 1911. Yeah, the webpage lists it as $782, but I can easily get it from a local dealer for less than $700. (I think he's got it for $649)
So naturally, that's what I'd recommend for you, too.

If I were going to go semi-auto, which is very unlikely, I'd go with either a Sig 220 or a Kahr in .357 Sig.

I'd call CDNN and order up a used (NEW to me) HK USP 9mm. The remainder of the money would be spent on mags, ammo, Trijies and a trigger job. ;)
