I'm setting up a RRA 20" coyote rifle for local 3-gun I have a question about the Leupold VX-II 1x4x20. Will this be a good scope for 3-gun with 90% of the targets under 100 yards. The rifle has the JP tactical comp installed, the scope will be mounted in the JP Flat Top mount.

Great scope, I have 3 of them on 3 different guns. 100 yards is no problem.

That is what I ran for several years, and, maybe it is because I'm a little color blind, but, I found myself wanting more magnifacation sometimes for picking out targets at 200+ yards, and I never turned it lower than 2 power anyway, so I went to a 2-10.
If the matches I shot were all 100 yards, or under, I wouldn't have changed.

It'll work, but a scope with a traditional reticle is slower than a red dot at close range. There is no perfect solution. There are a few 1 - 4 power red dots, but they are pretty pricey.

Yes, a "dot" sight is faster than a traditional scope, but, open sights are faster than a "dot" sight.

open sights are faster than a "dot" sight.
Inside 15 or so yards, yes. Past that, dots rule.
I bet past 150 or so crosshairs beat both.

Thanks for information about the scope! It seems like a hard scope to find, none of the local shops had one in stock or could get one soon. I placed an order for one at SWFA, it's back ordered, should ship in a few weeks.
