(Newbie question follows...)

I just bought a Ruger KMK678GC (and haven't cleaned it yet). Anyone know if field stripping the KMK512 (as shown here: http://1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip.htm) is the same as for the KMK678GC?

If not, what are the differences?

Thanks.

Same gun except for barrel length/style... so same procedures.

Good luck

Same Same---1st time is a b---h to get back together---but becomes easier with practice---then after awhile is no big deal.

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS----EXACTLY!!!

Do you know anyone that has a MkII? When I bought my MK678G, I was told to not clean it the first time unless someone who knew MkIIs was close at hand to help with the reassembly. (Which I havent had a chance to do yet, as the pistol's currently back at Ruger for servicing, but in its defense, its serial number says its ~14 years old and I bought it used)

it is the same, and really not that hard...

also just in case, there are some comon problems, and solutions when reassembling:
http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip_pcs.htm

most involve the hammer strut.

Once you figure things out, a Ruger can be stripped and reassembled in 30 seconds. Just take your time and look at what you're doing.

With some trepidation, I decided to field strip and clean the gun last night. I had the user's manual and the field strip instructions previously mentioned with me.

So I used a paper clip to pull the pointed latch out and swing the whatsit out of the handle. Hmmm, now what? Oh, I see, pull down on the whatsit and it removes a big pin. Now grab the slide. Gee!!! it pulled right out. Now slide the barrel forward. That's it. That's it??? That's all it takes?

I cleaned it, then went to reassemble. I actually found the user's manual instructions clearer, and got the gun reassembled. I pulled the slide back and locked it, inserted an empty magazine, released the slide, pulled the trigger and it went "click". Damn! I must have it back together right!

So it turned out to be a much smaller deal than I was afraid of. Thanks for the help and encouragement from everyone!
