Steyr grip too slick?

Does the grip on your Steyr seem a little too slick to you? Haven't had a problem holding on to it while firing or anything, but I wish it was not so smooth.

I agree with you, and that is my only real complaint about Steyr pistols. I've considered putting a thin strip of skateboard tape on a couple of the flats of the grip, but I think that it would make the pistol ugly. Since I don't carry it, I don't worry too much about it and haven't been driven to modifications.

Personally, I prefer an aggressive stipling like that found on HK's USP Compacts.

There's a few very cheap and effective fixes:

#1) Sex wax.. or any surf board wax.. Unless you live in NV or AZ, then the wax will melt.

#2) Is 3M's remount repositionable spray adhesive.. tactile spray. that's "Tactile spray" as in adhesive, not "tactical spray" as in 3 round bursts a la Skunk..

Or you can take a sandpaper to the grip and rough it up..

What about putting one of those Hogue grip sleeves over it? Or is that Steyr grip too fat for that?

I have seen people put the Hogue sleeves on the Steyr. I have heard of using inner tube for bicycle tires, if it was cut right it might look pretty good. I have never tried it because the grip doesn't seem that slick to me, maybe because it fits my hand so well.

I have an M40 and found the grip to be slick as well. I put the Hogue full size grip sleeve on the grip. While I'm not exactly thrilled with finger groove grips, the Hogue grooves match the factory groove contour extremely well and, most importantly, fit my fingers well. The Hogue grip is a tad too short, so I looked into extending it a bit. My solution came in the form of a black rubber band that originally came packaged with those cheap laser sight kits, intended to hold the wires down leading from the sight to the grip actuator switch. It blends well with the hogue rubber, is fairly tacky, and has proven very durable. I also put a small tab of skateboard tape on the underside of the trigger guard. The combination of the grip and the friction of my finger against the guard locks the gun in place under recoil. Plus it looks good to boot. I'll try to get a pic of it if anyone is interested.
I think a sleeve cut from narrow bike innertubes would work well enough too. They are tackier than you would think once the whole grip is rubbing on your hand. I've put these on peoples pistols in lieu of the hogue grips, since they are cheap, easily replaceable, and lack fingergrooves. There is always A-grips, if you don't mind the black velvet look (works great on shotgun and rifle handguards, I might add.)

I've had no problems with my Steyrs being too slick. However, if I did, I'd have no qualms about using some skateboard tape. No way you could make a Steyr any uglier.

But then I didn't get them for their beauty. I got them because I love the way they shoot.

Just put an Uncle Mikes slip on grip, small #59601, on the m40 and it feels better and looks pretty good. It is flat with no finger grooves and is the right height with no trimming. Need to shoot it soon to see how it feels.

i have tried the hogue grip and its much better imo than just bare pistol. I got a uncle mikes medium sized grip and replaced my hogue grip. had to dremel some rubber behind grip so it fit perfectly flush at the finger groove.

if you get oil on grip make sure you remove it. maybe try using rubbing alcohol.

after i removed my hogue though its now to big to get back on the grip. wish grip was slightly bigger but oh well.
