More classic liberal backpedaling. His quotes from the 1990's are his real feelings and he's only trying to appease and fool the pro 2A crowd now.

His views are extreme and is certainly one of the most gun unfriendly candidates we have ever seen.

Why are people so enamored with this socialist?

Just remember, the race for the nomination usually is appealing to the extremes of one's party. Towards the end and into the actual election process, then its a race back to the center. Once elected, then its a matter of appealing to a middle of what you promised (race towards the edges again, however you stop half way).

Socialist? Look up socialist and realize that if one is intelligent, use of words that have a common (but not established) denotation had no effect. Realize, he is young, ambitious and charismatic. That is what appeals to folks today.

Massive tax increases for the "wealthy", businesses, and industry. Socialized health care. More government subsides for the "poor". Stripping gun ownership from law abiding citizens.

All fits the bill of socialist.

Ant is right, however, using like a bad adjective is stooping to a less intelligent level. I see alot of folks calling others "socialists" or "communists". Are we to stoop to the level our opponents by using "buzz" words or word we know to have "bad" connotations?

If one is to complain about a candidate, complain about how you dont like their policy in an intelligent fashion. Calling anyone who you dont agree with a "facist" or "communist" only makes me think less of a man. Complain about them, but dont belittle them. If one thinks they are better than the candidate and is willing to call them names, then why is the insulter not a candidate themselves? Appeal to common sense, not emotion.

No offense to the OP, however, this tactic that Obama (and now Hillary I believe) is not new. Wait to complain when they get into office. Then thats when you will see fireworks. Instead of calling folks communists, let us exercise our power of voting to not allow these people into office. Simple complaints WILL NOT suffice.

Preparing to be flamed, if anyone needs me, I'm going to be in the internet doghouse for the next couple days. :(

While it's a good article by Mr. Lott, there is one error which needs to be corrected. This statement (the bolded part) is untrue:

Indeed, such a ban [on all semi-auto guns] would outlaw virtually all handguns and the vast majority of rifles sold in the United States.

No, it wouldn't. Not even a majority of rifles are semi-auto, let alone a vast majority. Just an error. We have the facts on our side - we don't need to mislead.

If his political stance leans more towards socialism, then how is it derogatory to call the man a socialist?

Yeah the word socialist has a "bad" connotation, but it can also be used in the literal sense of the word. It's all about the context in which you use it. Obama is a socialist in the dictionary definition of the word.

Premium: If you include Obama's stance on "sniper" and "armor piercing" rifles, than that will include everry caliber from the lowly 30-30 on up.

So yes, Obama wants to take away the majority of the rifles in america, and leave just muskets, flinklocks, and .22lr's

Calling anyone who you dont agree with a "facist" or "communist" only makes me think less of a man.

So you have a problem with using a term with a defined meaning, when someone used the word to mean what it means?

"Facist" is actually not a word.

"Communist", however, is a word, with a definition. "Republican" is not inherently a pejorative. Neither is "libertarian", "civil libertarian", "socialist", "economic conservative", "free-trade advocate", "protectionist", "feminist".

"@sshole" is. "Jerk", "sh1thead", etc. But "communist" has a definition, and many people refer to themselves as such.

As I said, though, "facist" doesn't mean anything, because it's not a word.

Serioulsy your berating him for calling a dog a dog, a bird a bird. How I was raised we were about honesty, we called a duck a duck and a hooligan a hooligan, the man has socialist policies so why should ant be berated for calling him a socialist? Oh I know why because in our world today nobody wants hurt feelings. So rather than being honest everybody has to lie about what the person really is so as not to offend anyone. It really is sad when honest people are scorned for being honest. Political correctness is out of control soon we will have to to call murder something else so we dont hurt the perpatraors feelings.:banghead::banghead::fire::fire: And I fought for this country???!!!!! f$$$$$^& Well at least morally we aren't as far gone as many other places.

Hello Battlechimp Potemkin,

I agree that it is in bad taste to belittle someone that you have political differences with. However, I do not think it is wrong to call someone a Socialist(or any other label that correctly fits their political views) if their political views are in fact socialist or have strong socialist leanings. I think that Obama has several views that are in line with the Socialist idea of government.

It would not be far fetched, IMHO to call him a Socialist. Does that make me "less of a man" in your opinion? If you don't like name calling, okay I understand that. I don't care for it either. However, calling someone out for what they are is different than slinging insults.

Respectfully in dissagreement, md7

Here's the thing...

These are not insults:
"Ron Paul is a libertarian."
"Pat Buchanan is a trade protectionist."
"Jeremiah Wright is a Black Liberation Theologian."
"Gloria Allred is a feminist."

Therefore, how is this an insult? "Barak Obama is a socialist."

"The Bible warns us of Barack Obama!

The Bible warns us of Barack Obama! Please Read All!
The Bible has warned us that 'A man will come from the East that will be charismatic in nature and have proposed solutions for all our problems and his rhetoric will attract many supporters!'

When will our pathetic Nation quit turning their back on God and understand that this man is 'A Muslim'....First, Last and always....and we are AT WAR with the Muslim Nation, whether our bleeding-heart, secular, Liberal friends believe it or not. This man fits every description from the Bible of the 'Anti-Christ'!

I'm just glad to know that there are others that are frightened by this man!

Who is Barack Obama?

Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice.

If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is v ery scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it.

snopes. com ..' confirms this is factual. Check for yourself.

Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu , Hawaii , to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel , Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHEIST from Wichita , Kansas .

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii .

When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya . His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia .

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia . Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta . He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, 'He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school.'

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that that he is not a radical.

Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's
education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta .

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.

Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite th e Pledge of Allegiance nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Do you want someone like this as your PRESIDENT?

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States , one of their own!

Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country?...... NOT ME!"

This is not the place to complain about politicians or discuss politics. Endless discussions complaining about politicians and politics sap the power of the internet for change.

This is not the place to debate ideas.

This is where we present actions we actually have carried out or action we want to carry out to make change happen.

Armed Bear,

Exactly. These people are what they are because they choose to believe in whatever it is they stand for. How can calling them out on what they are be an insult?

It can't. Obama has socialist policies. So calling him a Socialist is not an insult.

Welcome to The High Road! Thanks for making your first post a good one (and worth repeating).

RIATAC45: The items you posted are so incredibly, pathetically cheap, slanderous, ridiculous and ignorant that I would normally never stoop to comment.

However, I have to say that it scares the living fecal matter out of me that some people read that and use it as a basis to cast a vote. It makes me think seriously about the need for an IQ test prior to voting.

Further, simply by posting it here you have stained us all with that filth.

It turns my stomach.

East. Hawaii is generally considered west of here. Unless you take the long way. Now, Chicago is east of Texas, so we may be onto something here.

Anyhow...

Nasser,

What does a man have to do to earn his Socialist stripes in your eyes. Good Lord, I thought the whole redistribution of wealth (taxing the the rich and busineses to fund social programs for the poor) was a pretty good indication. and what about Obama's view of gun control? sounds sorta socialist to me. and let's not forget socialized medical care. because, c'mon it's the collective right of all subjects,,,errrr citizens to have government provided, citizen funded health care whether you like it or not. i mean you work hard right? well sir, you don't need that extra cash you earned pulling overtime. No sirreee! this underprivileged mother of 10 without a job needs your money by God. It isn't her fault she slept around and got pregnant by 8 different men. the consequences of her actions should not fall on her. My God! what kind of place would this be if we had to exercise some personal accountability. No sir, here in the good ole U.S. of A. the folks that do right and work hard pay the way for those that don't. All you gotta do is cast your vote for Obama!

Is Obama a dyed in the wool, likes of Stalin Communist? No

Does he have beliefs that are rooted in the essentials of Socialism? Yes.

Are you a Libertarion Marxist Communist Church of God of Yesterday's Saints on the Road to Jericho Socialist? I don't know.

But offensive or not, Obama has Socialist views and he is Socialist.

What we have now is a facist administration. The merging of corporate and gov't interests is bydefinition of facism. It still amazes me how brainwashed the right wingers are in this nation. They still think that liberals are the threat when right before there noses the constitution has been dismantled and the nations sold off to the highest bidder. We have just a few years if not months left before the decades of conservitive corportate handouts once and for all bankrupt this once great nation. God help us....

ArmedBear

"Facism" is still not a word, and "fascism" is not defined as you say, cornman.

This is the Webster definition: "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition"

Here is the definition by the guy who is responsible for the term: http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/mod/mussolini-fascism.html

Neither one of them is what you think the definition is.

It's always fun to read the semi-literate berating others for being "brainwashed".

They're all snakes, and they all engage in double talk. The question is simply who will slither in our direction. I can't see McCain doing bupkus for us. His own views on the subject are well known. I can, however, see a Democrat compromising away anti-gun legislation in order to get higher priority programs through.

None of these choices are good, but I don't think any of them constitute a Biblical end o' the world scenario.
