Best of a classic.

I've read so much good press about the 9 mm that I just wanted to gather opinions in one place. What's the best value (not necessarily low-cost) in an accurate, reliable, carry-friendly pistol?

Considering the cost of the rest of the line, one of the bargain priced Sig Classics would be my vote:
The US made 239 is a little over $500 new.
Lightly used German 225s are fetching about $450.
New 9mm German 220s are $469 from SOG. US mag release and 9 round mags.
Same basic guns as the ones priced around $700.
The CZs are good values too, but rather heavy. The CZ PCR is alloy framed, though, and probably closer to Sig weight.
Other than some cheapy bargains, like FEG Hipowers, or monsters like the Beretta and Taurus 92s, their aren't alot of super quality, light framed guns that don't have inflated price tags.

The best "value" might depend on what you think is more important.
The Hi Power, Smith 3900 series pistols, and HK P7M8 are all really good. The Sig P210 probably is pretty good too, but I haven't shot one. A Hi Power GP Competition might also be pretty good. Heh, in some places, not here though  , a suppressed pistol might be a good idea. :neener:

The best bang for the buck are the CZ-75 series pistols. High quality, excellent ergonomics, and flawless reliability, all at a relative bargain. A brand new CZ-75 will set you back less than $400 in many places.

While I like the BERETTA 92 series guns, they are too thick for me to carry concealed daily[the do make a great "car gun" though]. For a carry gun, I would look at a lightly customized BHP, or a HKP7M8.

The Glock 17/19 have proved themselves to me.

Best bang for your buck:
FEG Hi-Power Clone (should run around $250 and it's called a PJK9HP)
CZ-75 (before Glock this was THE wondernine everyone was talking about)
Witness 9mm (an Italian licensed copy of a CZ, also available in compact size)
HS-2000 (now called the Springfield XD, at one time you could buy one for $200)
Ruger p-series (big for a 9mm, more of a belt gun but stone reliable)

I think the Ruger P-series guns would head the pack for me. Unless you're talking something small and easily concealed, Ruger is an excellent choice (these can be concealed, you just have to work with it a bit more). You might also checkout S&Ws value line. The 908 is very similar (practically the same) to the third generation 3913 guns. There is a full-size 9mm in the value line, I think it is the 910. The 910s use standard (read high capacity) 5906 mags. For a while Sig was offering their SigPro line for a substantial savings (I got mine new for $400 about a year ago). Don't know if this is still the case, but the SigPro is a way to own a new Sig without paying the prevailing prices of the classic line.

My local gunshop has KP95 DC's for $320.00 plus Ruger has a $40.00 rebate on "P" series pistols. A new CZ 75B Or BD is under $400.00. Both are very reliable and good values. I've good service from both guns. Thet aren't fancy but the both shoot. You won't go wrong with either.
Shoot well and often.

I vote for the Walther P99. Accurate, light, ergonomic and you can get standard capacity magazines(but you have to pay alot for them $70 +).

Value is really in the eye of the beholder. If you're looking for strictly price v. performance, I'd get the XD 9 a serious look.
