A lot of people want to move to or from their states because of RKBA reasons.

So I hope everybody will participate in this state game, which will help those who want to move, make a good decision.

The game is played like this:

You start the sentence with either:

"I love (My state name here) because.." and then you list a gun reason. So, example:

I love Nevada because its "shall-issue".

Or else you can start the sentence with:

"I hate (My state name here) because..." and then list a gun reason also. Example:

I hate California because I want AR15's.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This should help each other understand the different states better, and help people like me who is trying to decide where to eventually move to, make a better decision.
I love Tennessee because it's a shall-issue and full-auto state, and because it has reciprocity with more than a dozen other states and recognizes the CCW permits of every other state. We also have no waiting period, and no silly "one gun a month" law.
The few things I don't like about Tennessee: the fact that a CCW does not exempt you from coughing up $10 for a background check every time you buy a gun, and that you cannot legally carry in restaurants or any other establishment where alcohol is sold for on-premise consumption. Also, the permit is expensive compared to many other states: $60-ish for the mandatory safety course, and another $110 in cold hard cash for the TN Department of Safety.
Moving one state north to Ky:
I like it because it is shall issue, the permit is recognized in more than 20 states (we'll recognize anyone), and it is actually a CCDW (concealed carry deadly weapon) permit. Essentially if you can hide it you can carry anything without too much concern. I believe that full auto is ok, but not having the money to play that game I haven't checked it out completely. Knob Creek is located here and maybe one of these days I'll even have the ability to make it down there :rolleyes:
The permit is $60/5 years so it is $1/month. Training/class for the permit runs about $75 for an 8 hour lecture/range trip.
The bad part (about this part of the state anyway) is that we are right next to Ohio so depending on what I am doing that day determines my carry status too much of the time.
I dont like Ca because
-I want an AR15
-I am sick and tired of having to buy gunlocks for any new toy
-I have a stupid 10-day wait on any toy
-I get heartburn every time some pompus moron politco wants to ban some aspect of my hobby because it's big/scary/cop-killing/aircraft-shooting-down-at-5-miles/for the children
I like Ca...umm...because I'm getting interested in blackpowder?
I like Idaho because.
Shall Issue
Full Auto
no waiting periods
recognizes all states CCW
more and more states recognizing ours
People from other States (and Countries) stop tailgating and back way off when they see Idaho plates on your car.
CCWeapons permit $65.00 for 4 years
you can carry where alcohol is served (just don't get over .08)
Democratic Sherrifs issue without a hassle.
no one points and screams "GUN" if you print
Having a NRA Director as State Senator.
''Love'' ... let's not get extreme! :p
I LIKE PA cos we are 'shall issue' ... std background check and no immense and costly training program. Whole deal (if you include shrunk/laminated ''card'') ... $21.50... 5 yrs valid.
Only downside of that is my concern at novice shooters, who ''think'' they should carry ... so maybe a brief but mandatory safety course would be good. This is not denying any rights ... more for the novice's own safety and those around him/her. Proficiency and safety are vital.
Having said that .. majority who even consider carry are in most respects ''gun-wise'' anyways.:)
I hate NJ b/c
1. Lautenberg, Corzine, and McGreevy
2. I want a CCW permit.
3. I want to unblock my 40 round magazines, and a drum for my SAR1
4. F'in smart guns
I like Arizona because,
Arizona allows open carry.
There is no 7 day wanting time on pistols.
CCW are legal.
Also all the evil guns are legal. AK47, AR15, .50
You can rent and buy full autos.
Private sales.
- It's shall issue CCW.
- CCW holders exempt from waiting periods.
- State gun laws override all local gun laws.
- No firearm registration.
- Private sales between individuals are legal.
- Machineguns are legal.
- AOWs are legal.
- Suppressors are legal.
- SBRs/SBSs are legal.
- DDs are legal.
- All pre-ban "semi-automatic assault weapons" are legal.
- Gun Shows are legal and plentiful.
- So-called "Gun Show Loophole" is still wide open.
- Non-CCWs may carry handguns in their vehicle.
I like Virginia because we've got a large population who are staunchly pro-guns and are willing to get active to continue to roll back the vestiges of gun control still in force. VSP are generally cool with RKBA, as are most local LEOs with the notable exception of Northern VA and Norfolk/Hampton Roads areas. Shall-issue, instant check, etc. are already here.
I love Florida because:
- Decent CCW law, "shall issue"
- No Texas-style 30.06 law
- No confusing 50% alcohol sales law (just can't carry in bar areas)
- Unlike NY, when a good guy shoots a bad guy, the DA shakes the good guy's hand and the sherrif gives a testimonial speech at the banquet where the mayor presents the good citizenship award.
- Lots of shooters, lots of places to shoot
- Because we have no gun, bullet, or magazine, bans other than federal law.
- AOW's, SBR's, and MG's are legal, if you can get CLEO sign-off.
- Because we have state gun-law pre-emption.
- Because Milwaukee soundly defeated a handgun ban referendum a few years ago.
- Because we're on the verge of joining the civilized U.S. and getting CCW permits here.
- Because my house is 7 blocks away from a gun store.
I love Ohio because, generally, life is good, and I like 4 seasons a year.
I despise certain aspects of Ohio, in particular the Spineless Ohio Senate, and Guv. Booby Daft because they keep wrecking decent CCW bills that the Ohio House passes.
Not to mention Ohio Hiway Patrol's high-level spokemen i.e OHP Superintendant McClellan who claims that he can't any find info that the Armed Citizen is the Good Guy. And OHP Capt. John Born, who claims that people don't need CCW, if attacked in their cars, folks can "Just drive away"
Tell that lie to the man from Toldeo that was killed last weekend trying to "just drive away" from the car-jacker.
By the way, Ohio Hiway Patrol, what's up with that logo on your cars? What is that..a WINGED FLYING DOUGHNUT? ? ? ?
Indiana:
Good: LTCH is $25 with no silly class, carry long guns is okey-dokey, no dress code while carrying, NFA stuff is okey-dokey, lots of ranges, gun stores, gun shows and training opportunities, firearms are acceptable to speak of in public, no silly storage requirements, no cosmetic or reloading bans, one book a month laws, carry in taverns is just fine and we shot all of our bears years ago so no whimpering about bear attacks.
Bad: No "Chinese throwing stars" (whatever those are) and Oprah lives here.
I love Illinois because. . . . well . . . . we have really good corn dogs at the state fair.
I hate Illinois because:
1. I can't buy, own, or use a gun without a FOID card. Ted Nugent claims the only other state in this hemisphere that requires a special photo ID for gun ownership is Cuba. :eek:
2. No full auto, silencers, SBRs, etc.
3. No switchblades.
4. No concealed or open carry.
5. Deer hunting is the only legitimate use for a firearm.
(Edit: Oops, I forgot the waiting periods, requirement that private sales include records of both FOIDs kept for seven years after the sale, and the generally two-faced double standard in the state. For instance, our town's Chief of Police just retired after a very contentious final year in office, and an acquaintance asked him whether he would like to sell any of his service guns. He told my acquaintance that he only has one personal gun left, and he'll never want to sell it because his parents gave it to him when he became chief. Somehow, the conversation came around to the dreaded FOID, and the chief told my acquaintance that he's never had one and sees no need to get one now! This is a man who has owned and carried guns for at least thirty years! If one of "us" tried that, we'd find ourselves in jail. I'd like to convince him to go get a FOID and then take the story public. I don't really want to destroy the man's life; he's been through enough, and he was a pretty decent old chief unless you believe rumors. But I don't want to let this kind of thing go unchallenged, either.)
Okay, I'll play ...
In Montana:
1) You can buy anything you want with only a NICS check, no waiting periods
2) You can carry loaded weapon in vehicle (except not loaded long guns during hunting season)
3) You can open carry (but I haven't tried it in Billings ;) )
4) You can concealed carry outside of city limits without a permit
5) Concealed permits are shall issue (no NICS required for gun purchase)
6) Estimated 95% of households are armed
7) State legislature passed resolution stating that armed citizens are first line of homeland defense
Now all we have to do is get the legislature to pass a true 2A carry law, that is, like Vermont and Alaska!
But don't plan on moving here unless you can bring a job with you. It would also be nice if you could bring some water.
I love Arizona because they issue a Concealed Weapon Permit that also covers my perfectly legal automatic knives.
I hate Arizona because of their stupid laws about not carrying your gun where alcohol is served.
I love Nevada because you can carry dang near everywhere I wanna be: bars, casinos, ah...ahem...adult entertainment establishments, etc.
I hate Nevada because of Clark County: The Little Chicago of the West (handgun registration, blue cards, 119 day-23 hour-59 minute issue time)
OK, I don't love Illinois. With NO carry allowed, and a 3" blade limit (2" in Chicago), and no stun guns, tazers, etc...., it is a criminal's dream come true.
i love Alaska because its "shall-issue".....
...because its open carry......
...because starting sept any one can carry concealed without a permit, even though that is risky.....
...because full auto is permitted....
i dislike Alaska because.....
hang on, i'm still thinking... (lets see, easy access to fishing, hunting, any other outdoor activity, great alaska bush company, 20+ hours of daylight in summer, cool climate, no sales tax in anchorage, no state income tax, permanent fund dividend, did i already mention the bush company?)
gee, i cant think of anything i dislike about the state. i'll keep trying to come up with something though.
I hate Maryland because of:
7 day wait to buy a pistol or "assault rifle"
$10 state fee to buy either of the above
One-gun-a-month (more like one gun every 37 days) for pistols or "assault rifles"
Barely-issued CCW
I like Maryland because:
It has taught me to appreciate freedom, and to realize there's more to life than a paycheck (my family moved from PA to MD solely for my dad's job, when we had the option of going to China Lake or any other major Department of Defense installation).
Okay, I love Utah because:
it is a Shall-Issue state (not that that matters to a 19-year-old anyway), and no NICS for CCW holders
Silencers/Suppressors are legal (if you jump through the hoops)
No waiting period
No gun limit
Hicap mags are legal
Plenty of open desert to shoot at (but see below)
I hate Utah because:
There aren't many real ranges, and the only one near me is at the Tooele Army Depot, which civilians can use if you let the Feds inspect and register your guns. :fire: No thanks.
Lots of people from the People's Republik of Kalifornistan are moving here (I'm only complaining about the bad ones: liberal pacifist hippies who are Berkeley fans. :cuss: )
There are no NRA training courses here!!! :what:
I guess I've got it a lot better than some, though.
Things I like about Arizona....
-Shall Issue
-Open Carry
-The Weather...even this time of year
-Conservative/Libertarian values
-The people are great
-Q. What state has the largest variety of big game animals?
A. You guessed it--ARIZONA
-edited We have a really cool looking flag. Lame reason, but I still like the flag.
Things I don't like about Arizona....
-Our Janet-Reno-Mini-Me Governor
-Somewhere near 43% of the land in the state is owned by some agency of the federal government
-Our rate of growth
-The fourth year of our drought
-CCW not allowed in many malls, sports arenas, and establishments that serve alcohol. We've gotta get this changed.
-If it get's any worse in California, we'll be overrun with their refugees.
Things I love about Arizona...
-The White Mountains...but don't let the word get out.
Things I like about Arkansas:
----CCW
----Full-auto (rent and buy)
----Most millionares per capita (in the US) in NW AR (read Tyson, Walmart, Cargill, JBHUNT, Walmart, Lots of others, Walmart...) Good conservative base up here.
----"Gun" isnt a bad word in most places
----Walmart
----UofA
Things I dont like:
----The Peoples' Republik of Fayettenam, and the Smoke Free Fayetteville people.
----lots of Liberals (the bad kind Micro)
----Walmart (think they own everything around here. Trouble is, they could if they wanted to.)
----UofA (complete sellout to Walmart, and lot of Progressives:cuss: )
----The Walmart College of Megabucks (Walton College of Business, as a former engie, I have to dislike them because they are properly funded.:D :rolleyes: )
----Guns are bad in some parts (Cities w/ lots of liberals, North Little Rock {But then I repeat myself})
Twoblink: 30.06 is the sign that Texas businesses have to post if they want to prohibit CCW in their store. It has to be a very specific size, font, color and wording (the wording must be *exact* or the sign is void, IIRC) or else it doesnt count and guns can be carried there.
Things I like about Massachusetts:
"Assault"-style long arms are legal.
Pre-ban magazines are legal.
Things I don't:
Many, many makes and models of handguns are banned.
One needs an FID at a minimum just to own firearms in the home.
Licensing is controlled at a local level, allowing for many anti-gun police chiefs to restrict them.
The cost of the above just went up to $100 for four years.
WAY too many sheeple east of 495.
No CCW license provision at all
No suppressors for individuals
Antigun politicians esp. last three Governors
I like Missouri because
With a little thought you can render yourself exempt from the CCW ban
It's a machine gun state
No purchase permits required for C&R handguns
Lots of good places to shoot
Decent gunshows
Two excellent local gunsmiths
Pre-ban mags are legal in Massachusetts. Some distributors won't ship them here because they either do not understand the law or are worried that the Attorney General will find some sort of fault in their dealings. Those who take the time to read the laws, or take us at our word, will ship the mags.
What I hate about MD:
-one a month law for handguns and "assult-rifles" (with some exceptions- you apply for collector status and you can buy all you want, easy to get but you are in a file as a "gun-nut" with the state police, or you buy two at once and wait two months to buy again)
-shell casing law on new handguns (limits availability, and makes online purchase of new guns hard since otherwise MD ok guns sent to other states usually don't have the fired casings)
-built-in lock law on handguns (makes most new guns illegal to sell). Also the lock needs to be approved so if, say, Ruger starts putting on locks on all guns the Ruger lock must be approved before it is ok.
-no CCW for most people (self defense is not an acceptable reason for a CCW, if you are a business owner who carries a lot of cash, no problem)
-handguns tend to be overpriced
-MD state check in addition to federal check, which includes "voluntary" registration on all handgun purchases. Oh, the police don't approve you either, you are "not disapproved" if allowed to buy the gun.
-7 business day waiting period on handguns and "assult-rifles"
-all guns bought from a dealer must come with a trigger lock (you even have to buy trigger locks for handguns that come with the required built-in lock :rolleyes: ).
-guns must be on the state police "approved" list to be sold here, mainly this just makes it take longer for new models to make it here.
-there is a "smart gun" law on the books so as soon as a state police commission finds that they are available (I don't think that is defined so once there is only one commercially available model it probably will trigger the law) then all guns sold in MD must be "smart guns" (lets hope the maker puts in built-in locks and ships with fired shell casings so it will fit other MD laws).
-many MD politicians are strongly anti so what is the next one... However, Republicans and conservative Democrats have been doing better lately so it might be possible to turn a corner on this.
What I like about MD:
-rifles aren't too bad here (price and restrictions, except on "assult-rifles" are pretty much normal)
-Class III isn't really a problem here (but I can't afford it)
-Most of what I like/love about MD has nothing to do with guns or politics. Not a bad place to live overall, but I am a conservative Democrat and I find it WAAAAY too liberal here and for guns we are bad.
