Bushmaster-Maine and Marlin Questions

Hello!

I can't find the link here or on another board about Bushmaster.

I knew about the buyout of Marlin by Remington when it was first mentioned and sold. Cerberus owns Remington and Bushmaster... tons more too.

I read somewhere on the web that the BIG COMPANY, Cerberus, made some big cutbacks @ Bushmaster too. Does anyone know what is going on with Bushmaster now? Is it still going to be made in Maine and is the customer call in center going to be there? I bought some extra items for my husband's Bushmaster via the telephone not that long ago. They were nice people to deal with and explained what I needed to know nice and SIMPLE. Grin.

He loves his Bushmaster even though he and I are mainly into lever action rifles.

Another thing is this... I am still on a new Marlin 39A quest for us too. Now I wonder if I should just get another Browning BL22. I wonder if any of you have bought a NEW Marlin 39A recently and, if so, how did you like it in LOOKS and how well did she SHOOT for you? Quality? He loves his Marlins along with everything else of his... me too.

Can anyone help me here? I can't find that thread, perhaps it was on another board that I read and I am not a member of.

Thanks again for any or all help. Have an outstanding Wednesday!

Sincerely,

Catherine
PS: I can call them in Maine if all else fails. I hope they keep that plant and call center open.

Cerberus has purchased a number of Firearms companies. Remington, and Bushmaster as you mentioned, but also DPMS and they are looking at a Major Pistol manufactuer as well.

I can't speak to what they have done at Bushmaster but what Cerberus does is buy companies that are in bankrupcy or not doing as well as they should and gets them back in the black.

Firearms is just the most recent venture. THey will do what it takes to get the company into the black. This often means getting rid of the fat and people who don't understand the industry they are in.

Some people worry that it is an Anti Gun company buying up finearms companies to shut them down. But they are just a company that wants to make more money.

I dont know a thing about business behind the companies but i'll add this: If you havn't tried Henry rifles i Highly recommend them. Try the action back to back with any other lever and there is no comparison. I guess you could find it too smooth, but i think it's just perfect. I dont like brownings super short action, although it's probly quick. They're also made in Brooklyn, NY.

I've been involved with the closing of the doors process at the Sensata (formerly Honeywell, formerly 1st Technology) facility in Standish, ME. They are crating up the entire factory and shipping it to........drum roll.......China.

Sources there have said that Bushmaster signed a purchase and sales agreement to buy the entire facility.....which is a huge and very well equipped modern manufacturing facility. The buzz was that BM want's to get all of their operations under one roof and that this building is easilly large enough to set up an indoor rifle range for test firing.

The Sensata facility in Standish is only about 5 miles or so from BM's existing facilities (three seperate buildings and an outdoor range....or so I've been told) in Windham.

BUT............

about a week after I heard this, the DOD pulled back a very large contract that they had just awarded to BM.

Don't know if that put a monkey wrench in their plans or not.

i can't speak much to the Bushmaster thing, although i own one of their 16" A3's. haven't had to use their customer serviceand i'm quite happy with the rifle.

my first gun was a BL22. i loved that thing. it was fantastic. it has a very short throw, has very precise sights, and is silly accurate. i had to sell it to pay for books for college and man do i ever regret doing that. i replaced it with a Marlin 60 and its just not the same. lever action .22's are just plain fun stuff.

I expect the production of Bushmaster branded rifles is only going to increase. Cerberus bought them in an attempt to get military contracts. One advantage of buying multiple companies is that you can use idle manufacturing capacity at one plant to increase production of another co-owed brand. One company can also become a parts supplier for another company.

last i had heard the deal was sensatahad to be out by june first, so bushmaster could be in and running by july first. but, sensata decided they didn't want to be out by then so i dont know if bushmaster will be going in there.

sensata decided they didn't want to be out by then

One Sensata engineer told me they had contemplated keeping part of the facility for an R&D center....but then later I heard that plan was toast.

The fourth and final (AFAIK) phase of the machine crating is going down in about two weeks.

There won't be much there by way of machinery after that and they're advertising the liquidation auction for what's left.

This plant is a REALLY nice facility and would make a 'top shelf' weapons plant.

Thanks for the information.

I own a Browning BL22 and I love it too. It was my first lever action rifle - in fact my FIRST rifle when I first started to buy my own firearms back in 1998, 1999, 2000 and on. I owned a Winchester 94-22 and loved that one. I sold the Win and bought a Marlin 30-30 down the road.

We have friends who come to our range 'shoots'. I have tried one man's Henry 22LR lever actions and they are pretty neat too!

I just got off the telephone with Bushmaster in Maine. The nice man said that as far as he knows... they are still going to be Made in Maine! Grin.

Have a nice afternoon/evening.

Sincerely,

Catherine
