Anybody had any success with using RL15 in .223 for ARs?

I made 5 rounds last night.

Rem Brass (New)
60gr VMax
Win SR Primer
2.25 OAL
25.2gr RL15 (This is pretty much in the middle of the range listed in my Lyman 48)

Rifle is 1 - 9 twist. It loves the 60gr Vmax when pushed by 24.2gr IMR4895. I just wanted to try something a little different.

I bought a pound but I haven't loaded anything with it yet. But I hear RL15 is an excellent powder for 80gr match ammo.

I haven't tried it with 60s. I get very accurate groups with 25.0gr H4895 behind a Sierra 60 gr HP Varmiter

I've loaded my .375H&H using RL15, and it worked well. Those 270gr Barnes TSX leaving the muzzle at 2600fps+ certainly get your attention!

Lyman was the only manual I had that listed RL15 with 60gr VMax. Most of my manuals didn't consider it a powder for any .223.

RL15 worked well outta my 1/9 twist savage with the 60 vmax. I think the load was 25.6 grains seated to 2.31...work up to this of course

I have to stay at 2.26 or under if I want to use magazines. If I use 2.31, I will have to load one at a time. Not out of the question though...

I don't have an AR, but I use the RL15 with a Sierra 65gr GameKing BTSP. From the 18.5" bbl of my Remington M7, I get 2,950fps from 25.0gr of RL15. This gun has a short throat so I have to seat them to 2.222" oal. They stabilize from the 1-12" twist just fine. Accuracy runs about MOA and they kill deer as well as any .243wcf that I've used.

(Actually better, as I've yet to loose as deer with the 65gr GK. Can't say the same for any of the 80-100gr bullets I've used from the .243. Not slamming the .243, just I don't see it as superior on deer to either the .223 or .22-250)

The only powders I ever use in the .223 any more, are either BL-C2 or RL15.

Just a moral booster, since I haven't used Re 15 in .223, but I have used it, in .308 and with relitively light 150 gr bullets and it out shot Varget!
