Stupid question, probably, but...

Okay. Model 66 Smith - no dash. Well used and carried as a duty weapon for 7 years. (by me)

The question is: Leave it as is, or, polish it like the stuff Gunkwazy has posted here before to that nice, shiny polish.

Reason I ask. Gun has some value as a collector piece now, despite being used, as it is still relatively tight, shoots better than I can hold it, and is a no-dash model. Would polishing detract from it. My inclination is no, but the collector in me says, mmmmmmm, hold on there, pard!

Whaddya ya all think?

The Doc is out now.

Its your gun, do as you see fit~! Personally, I would leave it alone
and enjoy the heck out of it. :scrutiny: ;) :D

An owner polished stainless S&W has no collector value, period.

Even a used one with holster wear would be worth more to a collector then one that had been polished.

Don't do it!

As is... you don't want to be seen as a pimp with a gussied up gun.

NO!

The disappointment is not worth the polish.

I like the wear and tear myself.

It's stainless steel, keep the collector value and don't polish. However, like someone else said, it's your gun.

Yep, I think I see a trend here. :what:

As I said, part of me thinks it would be nice, the other part, the conservative one, thinks like the rest of you do.

I think it will stay as is.

Which of course, saves me a lot of work! :D

The Doc is out and thanking you all now.

Doc, I think I have the brother to yours, carried it 12 years and I love the nicks, dings and worn spots just like they are. You made the right choice, enjoy your time together.

I guess I'm bucking the trend, but I recently bought a 66-1 that the previous owner polished to a very high sheen and added attractive target stocks. Yes, I paid too much, but it is a classic and I love it. A S&W-knowledgeable buddy adjusted the main spring screw a bit, and it now has a fantastic trigger pull in both double and single action. It now is one of my favorite guns.
