Relevant excerpt:
A surprise benefit of sending Arnie to Sacramento is that he actually has held a firearm (something none of the recent California governors has done), and not only did it not bite him, it also didn't go rob a liquor store or shoot up a nursery school. This means that he might be able to consider gun-rights issues without fainting . . .

Was it a real, privately owned, firearm, an austrian army issue rifle issued during his national service or something he rented from Stembridge?
The guy needs a balanced information session, but I'll admit he's probably a bit more likely to consider it at all.

It's amazing that no one has brought up his family's past, his father's association with the Nazi Party and such.

You're kidding, right?
How about Katie:barf: :barf: :barf: Couric?
You're talking about people who painted Pat Buchanan (whatever you may think of him) as a Nazi for writing "A Republic, Not an Empire". They are socialistic pigs and will stop at nothing to gain power- if there is mud to sling they will- and they'll make it up if they have to. Lying means nothing to these people- just look at their favorite president.

hrmm.. out of curiosity, I figured party membership in pre-war and wartime Germany was kinda like Party membership in the USSR once upon a time .. perhaps not necessary in the sense they'd jail you or shoot you for saying "no thanks" but if you wanted to get anywhere in life you'ld mouth the party line. No? Anyone know for certain?

From what I have read, Arnold's father was a "believer", not just a follower.
However, in this country we do NOT visit the sins of the father on the son or daughter. At least that is the way it should be.
For example, I don't dislike Al Gore because his father was a bigot -- I dislike him because of who HE is.:)

Kaylee, you've pretty much got the gist of it.
2dogs, I was referring to this board, not the media as a whole. I believe Parade magazine did a story on it as well.
TheEgg - my understanding as well was that his father was indeed a believer in the party doctrine.
Bear in mind that I make no judgements myself, I was indeed expressing surprise at the fact that it had not been dissected here yet.

Anyone want to take bets on whether Arnold will make a clear statement that he supports a Constitutional right to self-defense? All I've heard so far is "the children must have...[fill in the blank]" and "everything must be done for the people." These are not remarks that inspire hope that the speaker has read the Bill of Rights recently. When the debate becomes "the children versus guns" we are already in the quicksand of extreme liberal spin.

I remember reading, many years ago (1980's IIRC) an article in a gun mag (was it Combat Handguns?) about Arnold and his guns. The article quoted him as being enthusiastic about shooting, and included photographs of him at the range. AFAIK, he does have his own gun collection (including all of the guns he's used in the movies - not props, but real, working ones).
Besides, anyone who owns five Humvees can't be all bad... if that doesn't PO the anti-SUV liberals in Kalifornia, nothing will! What's the bet his official Governor's vehicle will be an M1A2?

Naahh. The budget's too tight for fuel bill and the amount of road damage that beast does. An M113 with band tracks is more likely. Almost as imposing, better milage and less road damage. Besides, there's more room on top to stand on for speeches and the lectern and PA system can be carried as cargo. Must think of one's PR presence after all :)

A surprise benefit of sending Arnie to Sacramento Will be that the Demorats that destroyed Kommiefornia, and made it the toilet that it is, will be able to blame the whole thing on a R.I.N.O. like Arnie, once the supposed Republicans of Kommiefornia vote him into office. :barf:

Both my parents were registered Democrats in their later years. I hope no one will hold that against me.

I was born and raised and lived in the PRK for most of my life. When Pete Wilson was Governor, I don't recall a single anti gun bill getting by his veto. Anyone who can tell me different, please enlighten me. Thanks.

(something none of the recent California governors has done)The "critic" is an idiot. I guess this is what passes for clever thought among conservatives. Davis was a Marine, as was Wilson, IIRC.

No cheesy 'Ah-nuld' movies for a couple years? Aside from what would be on the news, that is.

Gray Davis was a Marine??? But all the tripe he spews?
I knew Marines werent the brightest bulbs in the pack but how on earth could he be one? That is one hell of a marring of the Marines's good image.
Owww, my brain hurts now. Dont do that again.

In 1961, while at Stanford University, Gray Davis joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) with a commitment to enter military service after completing law school. He entered active duty in the U.S. Army in 1967, rising to the rank of captain while serving in Vietnam in 1968-69. In Vietnam he earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He is a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Gray Davis was a Marine??? NO, HE WASN'T.

That doesn't really help. I have seen pictures of Chuck Schumer firing "assault rifles" at a firing range. He just doesn't believe WE should be able to do it. :banghead:

Oops, wrong branch. I misremembered Davis' military service. I guess I just thought he was someone that you would call "jarhead."
I was right about Wilson (http://www-hoover.stanford.edu/BIOS/pwilson.html), though.
Anyway, the point is that the present and last governors both served in the military. The writer is still a fruitcake.

No No No No. If anyone is still confused about Arnold Schartzenegger's stand on the 2AM issue, he is quoted as being in favor of "common sense gun control." He is a RINO in every sense of the term, and as DadOfThree has pointed out, his attitude is almost certainly one of "for me and not for thee." This guy's worth anywhere between $200M and $800M. Make no mistake, he's in the class for which exemptions in firearms laws are made.

Picking Warren Buffet as a financial and economics adviser looks good. He just might surprise everybody.

Not if stuff like this is part of his master plan:

Run a cross check of the amount of state mandated entitlements between California and Nebraska. Warren might be looking at what California government is supposed to be paying for against revenue. He might be saying " if you want one we want the other". It won't be pretty but what happens in California just mught be a forerunner to what happens nationwide. California and the nation are both in debit over their heads. We either lower the debit or learn tread debit indefinitely. We all know how well that works.
