Please write these assembly members on the Public Safety Committee who are looking at CA AB 2235 which effectively will ban all handguns that are not utilizing "smart" technology that disables the gun unless held in the hand of the authorized user. The sale of any other handgun will be made illegal.

Also... call them on the ammunition bill refered to in another thread...
“Smart” Gun Bill to be Considered on Tuesday, April 15 in the California Assembly!
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Please Contact the Assembly Public Safety Committee Today!
On Tuesday, April 15, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider Assembly Bill 2235, a bill to forbid the sale of handguns other than "owner-authorized (or “smart”) handguns" -- that is, handguns with a permanent, programmable biometric feature that renders the firearm useless unless activated by the authorized user. No proven, viable handgun of this type has ever been developed.
Introduced by Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier (D-11), AB2235 would require the Attorney General to report to the Governor and Legislature on the availability of owner-authorized handguns; once the Attorney General finds that these guns are available, only “owner-authorized” handguns could be approved for sale in California.
The law enforcement community has even expressed concerns about the use of this technology in firearms. How often has your computer malfunctioned while simply sitting stationary on your desktop? With that in mind, are you willing to put your personal safety, and that of your loved ones, in the hands of a sensitive computer system exposed to recoil, heat, solvents, dirt and grime? For an informative article about smart guns and the New Jersey law this bill is based on, please click here.
Please contact the members of the Public Safety Committee today and respectfully urge them to oppose this ill-advised proposal. Contact information for the Committee can be found below.

I was going to start a new thread on the topic--but here is as good a place as any. Go to www.calnra.com and click on the legislation header (top left) and scroll down to the one touch at the bottom. Once you click on the appropriate legislation tag, an email window should open--write the email, click send--that way everyone on the appropriate panel will get an email. Folks, let us see if we can give them several thousand emails by MOnday morning:evil::neener::D. I am sure they will appreciate all the attention (and besides the busier we keep their staffers dealing with our emails, the less problems they can cause us. Per the NRA lobbyist in Sacramento--if we can swamp their offices with calls and email, we get their attention.:evil:

Fine, pass the law, but Police first. Police above all, should have guns that only they can fire. Many law enforcement officers are killed each year by having their guns taken away....
It's for the children.

Apparently the public safety commission is unable to determine reality from the movies. It passed the committee just to let you guys know. Please everyone get those emails, letters and phone calls in to your person.

When they give up their guns in favor of a 'smart gun', maybe I will check them out. If they don't rely on them when their lives are on the line, I should not have to either.
Besides the technology getting old, outdated, and the need to replace your guns every few years, what about reliability? Digital products are not meant to be exposed to the severe g-forces caused by combustion and recoil. It is a handgun ban, and they know it.
Now we will need batteries to fire a pistol. :banghead:

Aside from the fact that this will drive up the price of pistols, is totally unproven technology, and will probably fail just when your life is on the line, consider the relevance to the true meaning of the second amendment:
This means with a small modification they could start putting active GPS chips in each and every handgun, meaning the gov. could track the location of every gun owner at any given time.. talk about the Social Contract..

Unbelieveable. I am fuming.
I just spent 20 minutes writing and re-writing to the first two assemblyen on the list. My initial emails were kicked back and I was referred to another, state site for the assemblyman. I filled out the required fields, re-wrote my comments and sent it again. The instant reply was that my comments would not be accepted because I wasn't in the assemblyman's district.
Write to your own representative.
The degree of insulation politicians provide themselves is truly scary.

Don't take this lightly guys. We already have this dumbest of all gun laws on the books in Joisey. It's just another ban that they don't want to call a ban.
Does anyone think Heller will have an effect on this retardedness?

They've been trying for this in NY state also. I don't know if there's currently a bill out there for it or not though.

You need to call. Find out what district they are in and pick a city. Say you are calling from there.
Do you think the Brady Bunch plays fair?
