suggestion for the buy, sell, trade forums

I was reading a thread regarding a bad transaction and it was stated that the seller edited the ad after the receipt of the money for the purchase. To prevent this, can posts in those forums be made so they can not be edited. Anyone wishing to amend anything can add another post to their thread.

Seems an interesting idea.

MJRW, we are discussing this amongst the staff to see if we want to do this, and if it is possible with the V-Bulliten software.

As long as it's only those forums and not all forums, sounds great. However, I don't want my typos to be a permanent fixture in my posts in other forums. I want to be able to edit those posts.

We understand and agree with you, Darrin. Any change made, if there is one, would be in the Trading Post only.

Well we ran it up and down the flagpole several times. While it is a good idea to limit editing (not cut it off entirely) in those forums, it isn't possible to do with the current software. Sorry.

Then I would suggest to anyone who things that this might happen that they may wish to do a screen capture of the original ad and save it.

Excellent suggestion, Mike. It would be like printing out the final page of an internet transaction should anything go wrong later on.

Not very useful legally, though. A moderately clever person could reconstruct a look-alike page that says user z wants to sell a mp5sd for $100 and will cover costs for the two NFA tax stamps.

Leaves me out.

Yeah, you're right, Tyme.

Interesting problem.
Tyme has a valid point. In this age, nearly anything can be altered.
I alter things all the time, just not on purpose very often.
Having the edited by at xxxx time and date is a help tho.

Can you restrict the trading post to members with a pre-determined post count or minimum time on the board?
Another forum I used to visit had supporting members and non-supporting members. There was a special forum for supporting members that non-supporters couldn't even view, much less post. (Using same forum software as THR)
What if the trading post was off limits unless the user contacts a moderator for approval? Can you you all do something like that? Maybe add an icon next to the username of those who have the permissions to post within the trading post?
Sorry, just thinking out loud.
