Learned something during this show just now, in the little blurb promoting .338 federal:

1. This cartridge allows you to shoot a bullet at a higher muzzle velocity than a .308 win, in a heavier bullet weight.

2. It results in more muzzle energy than the .30-'06 Winchester round.

:scrutiny:

It will also drop a Cape Buffalo reliably, in 0.5 seconds, no matter where you hit it. It has less recoil than a .22 Short, causes less barrel wear than an airgun pellet, shoots flatter than a .204 Ruger, and it's so quiet you'd think you were using a suppressor.

Also it's the cheapest reload.

An old guy I know, with a separate building for all his reloading benches, has hunted and shot competitively for many decades, with every imaginable firearm, bullet, cartridge and propellant.

He has a generic opinion he applies to most firearms and related products making any claims: "It's ALL BULL****!"

Notice what the OP highlighted. .30-06 Winchester.

That's some tough ammo to come by. Now, .30-06 Springfield OTOH :D

Edit:

There was a guy shooting .338 Federal at the range several months back. He was using a lon barreled break-open type pistol with a scope on it. It looked pretty cool, even considering the recoil that I was seeing. The pistol arced upward 60 degrees off the bags every time he fired. He claimed 2600 fps with a 200gr pill out of that thing. I should have invited him to shoot over my chrono to confirm. I suspect it was a little less than that.

When I was refused the opportunity to hunt an area back home in Montana that my family had hunted for years because "Buckmasters bought an exclusive lease," I realized that the common man doesn't matter & refuse to watch the show. It's all about money.
