Do they work? (or do you end up shaking each case after separating all the media to get the corncob or walnut out of the casing?)

I've got a Lyman "Autoflo" tumbler and it works ok, but I still have to shake each bottle neck cartridge after it empties all the media into the pan. If the birdcage separator's would do it better then I'd buy one, but if you still have to "shake" each individual cartridge then it doesn't buy me anything. (I can't see how they'd empty the case so that's why I'm asking)

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I end up shaking every case to make sure all cleaning media is out. There is not other way to be sure.

Yes they work fine. Just keep turning until the media stops coming out. I routinely do 25-06 rounds this way and don't have any problems with media in the cases.

I do mostly 30 Cal. stuff and straight wall pistol cases. I have no problems using the Wally World corn cob media. At $4.25 a bag a little extra time isn't a big deal to me. The ground Walnut hulls at PetSmart in the red bag with the parrot on the front is good stuff to.

Absolutely, I have this one from Cabalas (same as the RCBS) I like it better then the Dillon because it has a cover that keeps the media inside.

It cleans out all of the media from my .223 cases and leaves the flash holes clean. I know because I clean the primer pockets with with the RCBS Primer Pocket brush chucked up in the drill press and I never find any material in the flash holes. If you have an automated case feeder you definitely want one because any media can cause jams in the drop tube and since I have had my case separator my case feeder stays much cleaner.

I've used the Berry's separator for several years now and I wouldn't be without it. They made the mold for the one RCBS and Cabela's sells. In fact, they sold the mold to RCBS and then bought it back after RCBS made enough for their inventory.

If you buy one, you'll like it. I have three tumblers and the Berry's separator keeps them going.

Just give it a spin and all the media comes out!

I made it years ago before you could even buy a plastic one.

:) I'd say your woodworking skill exceeds mine. :) I'd end up spending $100 to make something like that and it wouldn't look 1/2 as nice.
