Here's my E. German. Nothing special, but this one has a very nice trigger and now sports Pearce grips instead of the plastic ones shown.

Do CZ82s count? My dad also has a bulgy. I'll have to take some pics.
April 15, 2008, 03:06 AM
I have a PA-63! Can I join! :)
Yes, I know it isn't really a PM, but it still shoots 9x18! :)

Did someone mention Makarovs? Regards, Richard:)
These are mine:

I happen to like the East German plastic grips the most of all I have tried. They look good, and don't have the (external) lanyard loop.

lee n. field, have you tried tried Hakan grips? Regards, Richard:)

Maks, the 'Lays Potato Chip' of the handgun world ... nobody can have just one ... :)
My two East German Makarovs ('62 & '64)... both purchased from THR members ... The second one had a trigger job done by Sylvan-Forge and is the smoothest Mak I've ever shot ... Best price I've found on 9x18 ammo is Wideners .... $167 per 1000 :)
MMC Night Sights, Pearc Grip, Nolan Hi Drop mag release...I'm not sure what else..

Maks are great little guns. You can't do better than a gun that's been field tested by the KGB...:D ... and every Eastern Bloc police force on the planet.
I bought my first one in about 1992 or 3, and I've been hooked on them since.
I just get p'o'd at Makarov.com because they show all the cool pics of stuff you need and they're always out of it. If you're selling things, don't put their pictures up and then tack "sold out" on every item in the list.:cuss:
Maks are cool carry pieces, but extra mags, etc. are a little hard to find unless you don't mind dumping a load of money. I'm still in the market for a double stack mak, but so far, none have popped up on the radar... but if they ever start the "mak club", I'd like to be a charter member. I love'em...

Makes me glad I snagged a bunch back when they were cheap. :):)

I picked up my first Mak a couple of months ago, a Bulgarian. It needed a GOOD cleaning, only came with one mag. That thing is a very accurate little gun! I can see grabbing a couple more if the price is right. I found 2 brand new mags in a local gun shop's "mag" box. I dug through 2 boxes of various mags to find them. Brought them to the counter & said . "How much?" $20 dollars for both, the twenty was out of my pocket before he stopped speaking! Enjoy!
April 18, 2008, 02:41 PM
Here's mine :) you really can't beat a $250 gun that outshoots target 1911's. Mags are a pain to find, though. Only one I've found outside a gun show was $30. I passed...
I've got 3 myself. I EG, 1 Bulgie, and a IJ70AH in .380. Makarov.com said they've got 8 rd mags coming in, in a few weeks, but thats been a month or so ago. I'd like to get a couple extra when they get there.
April 18, 2008, 05:41 PM
Just have one Bulgarian, and it's been nothing but perfect since I got it (3 years ago for $160).
Does anyone know where to get spare slides? I'd like to get one to modify with some nice sights or something without altering the original gun much.
April 18, 2008, 05:48 PM
This thread would be incomplete without a photo of Nikolai Makarov himself!
I think I know why I like Makarovs so much. It's the same reason I like Tokarevs and CZ 52s. They were built to function without complaint. They have no frills and you don't need to cater to them. They just go and go and go. I drive a 1962 slant six Valiant. I like it for the same reason. With any mechanical thing, the fancier it gets, the less dependable it becomes.
May 23, 2008, 12:22 PM
I have a kit that converts the Makarov to shoot 22 LR ... I have never fired it but did install it and it cycled OK ... I now have more 22 handguns than I need so I'm considering selling it ... does anyone have any experience w/ them and should I keep it ... it is the type that is a barrel insert / a new slide and spring w/ a couple mags ... Thanks ... :)
Does anyone know if I can sell it on Ebay should I decide to part w/ it ?
May 23, 2008, 01:22 PM
I have five surplus mags up for sale if anyone wants them. Found them in a parts box a couple days ago. Email if interested.
Maks are sure fun. I wish I had not sold mine, but it had appreciated so much temptation got the better of me.

I've got two, an East German with a three dot sight installed by Makarov.com and a Bulgarian. Both sport Makawrap grips.
May 24, 2008, 09:28 AM
I bought five Maks several years ago in the Mak import heyday. I have two Russian Commercial Maks, one in 9MM Mak the other a brushed Satin Nickel in .380 (B-West import). Two Bulgarian milsurp Maks, both seem unissued and an East German Mak that is the smoothest of the bunch. The milsurp Bulgies are still the best value in Maks out there, IMHO.

Black Adder LXX: That looks like a nice, dehorned, night-sighted, and refinished Mak with some cool grip texture. Looks familiar. I love it!
June 12, 2008, 11:36 PM
I think that the Marschal grips really dress up the Norinco. They fit perfect, and feel much better than the thumb-shelf target grips that came with it.
I don't know of an importer of Maks. I do know that I used to be able to get 1K for about $165. I still have two boxes, so I had better start looking for more ammo.
The Maks shoot well, I have two Bulgarians, One a brand new military and one a commercial. I think I like the military better, but both shoot very well. The last two gun shows I saw had them for nearly $300. They must be getting scarce.
I too would like to get some more mags. If anyone finds a source, please put it up here.
Like to have a couple more mags and another Mak. Those sites in another members post from Makarov.com are actually Novak's. Might contact him directly in parkersburg, WV and check avail. Also see makarov.com if you've not been there.
WHere can the Marchall grips be found? Other wooden grips?
June 15, 2008, 11:19 PM
Wooden grips can usually be found on Ebay by searching "Makarov"
I'll join. I have 2, a military Bulgarian and a Russian. The finish on the Russian was ruined by some Bubba, trying to make it look two-toned. I'll try and upload some pictures.
I sure do like the look of some of the one's posted here, especially yours, Richard. Did you do the metal refinish work? It looks very professional and clean. I looked up the Hakan site and the prices aren't posted. I understand why...he makes each to individual order! Curiously, will you share what the average cost of one grip set amounts to?
June 23, 2008, 03:04 AM
Thanks for the Numrich mag info. I just ordered 3 mags.
June 30, 2008, 07:06 PM
One of my favorites and a regular carry, an EG Mak.
What is a reasonable price for a bulgarian makarov right now?
July 1, 2008, 07:31 AM
Bulgies are $250 US and up; EGs are $300 US and up. The CZ82, that fires the same round. start at $200 US. Regards, Richard:)

What's it cost to feed these little guys?????
Hoe hard is it to find the ammo?????
July 1, 2008, 06:33 PM
It's a cheap caliber to buy. Online, it's really cheap. Like, the cheapest except for.22s or 9x19s.
July 1, 2008, 06:34 PM
I'm in. :)
Hey! John McCain should stick with the "Mack Attack" Campaign slogan and hand out free Mak's after his stump speeches. Oh! and 1k rounds of ammo.

Yesterday at Academy, the price was $8.98 for box of 50 Monarch 9x18
July 2, 2008, 08:26 PM
Makarov club huh? Don't mind if I do. :)
It was the first handgun I ever purchased. Got it shortly after turning 21. For quite some time, it was the only gun I ever carried. Its a .380 and it carries 95 grain Winchester SXT. I bought a set of Makawrap grips for it but the finger grooves didn't suit me. I was just about to order a different set when I decided to slice the grooves off to see if that helped. It did help. I really like the grips. Just a shame they don't make them any more.

i bought a little Bulgarian and never got to shoot it my wife promptly put it in her purse and said thank you
Poor East Texan
July 4, 2008, 03:27 PM
That is a COOL Bulgarian Clean!
Mine is nicely blued but nothing special otherwise.
July 4, 2008, 03:52 PM
Why thank you. :)
July 7, 2008, 01:02 PM
Hey Y'all .. what would y'all suggest for a holster for an EG Makrov ... as much info as possible and photos if available too please .... :)
Here is a pic of my Russian model that I rounded the edges off, removed the tooling marks and polished so the blueing stands out nicely.
