I recently got back into shooting about a year ago after a 10 year hiatus. Since then I have been mainly buying and shooting pistols. Lately however I have been getting the itch to start picking up a few rifles to add to the collection. The only one I have currently is my old model 94 Winchester that my Dad got me when I was 10 or 12. After having looked around I have kind of made myself a little wish list and would appreciate any comments or suggestions. I'm not really looking for rifles for hunting more of the collecting and shooting for fun type. Thanks.

I think that's a great list; covers a lot of ground. I'm trying to figure out whether to buy a Garand or 98k myself.

However, I'd trade your selection of an SAR-2 for an FAL or G3.

An SMLE would be a good addition to the list. I had one and foolishly sold it (I am such a moron!).

looks a good list. Personally in your shoes I'd bump the M1 (Garand) to the top the list, scratch one of the SARS (just 'cause they all look alike to me :p) and add some kinda precision bolt gun. to each their own though. :)

You did not mention shotguns (I know, this is the rifle forum). If you don't already have one, I'd add a Rem 870 or Mossy 500 to the list.

Thanks for the input. I had been thinking about some sort of FAL type rifle. Also maybe a M1A. As for shotguns all I have right now is a Winchester 1300 series. Going to a gunshow next week and was planning on getting the SAR1 and maybe a 91/30 or 98k funds permitting. Seems like a simple and cheap starting point.

Of those listed, my first choice would be an AR-15 (if you have the money, an M16). A couple of added suggestions would be a Ruger 10/22 and an M1 Carbine.
