Hogs are not as dangerous to humans as some believe. Do not get between a sow and her pigs.
Your dog is another issue. Hogs hate dogs and will go after them. In this area folks lose a few dogs to hogs every bird season.

No. I probably have more hogs on my place that most around and you hardly ever see 'em out of the brush during the day. I don't worry at all about hogs except I'm usually armed for them in case I'm presented with a shot at one. I worry more about stepping on a rattler down there. The only semi dangerous (and easily avoided) animal we have down here is gators, well, and humans, other than the snakes. It ain't the African plains.

Are hogs dangerous? To you no. To your dogs, yes. A lot of dogs will try to attack a hog. The hog will retalliate and kill them.

Don't laugh, but my family has had more "house" dogs injured by Javelinas than wild hogs. Like it was quoted earlier, the worst place you can be with a hog is in between a sow and her pigs, but this does not happen a lot. In most cases, they will run away unless the dog corners them or keeps them from getting away. The javelinas on the other hand can be pretty nasty towards a dog. We have taken our dogs to the vet many times after they have had a few mix up's in the yard.In most cases the hog's image is blown completely out context. Yes, they can be just as bad as you have probably heard, but more times than not, they just want to get away from you.

Well, I checked my trap today and I had four little piggies. They can't be more'n 6 or 8 weeks old, got their teeth in, weened, but maybe 15-20 lbs on the hoof. LOL. Little ones like that, I split down the middle and put half a pig on the pit at a time. Yum. :D Kinda like cleanin' rabbits, LOL! I walked up to the trap, saw the little ones, drew my .357 and kicked around to make sure mama hog wasn't hangin' around before I popped 'em. They probably got in there last night and mama gave up on 'em. I was on my SV650 Suzuki. I fit 'em all into a 50 lb feed corn sack and strapped 'em on the back. ROFL! Small game hunting at its finest. :D
Watching the ground for snakes on the way in and out as always, I found a HUGE skin shed, wasn't the whole snake and it was about 4 1/2 feet long. Today was crisp, cool, and bright sun, perfect weather for snakes to be in the trail sunnin'. I was a little on edge for snakes today, but didn't see one this time.

BTw, Javelinas will tear a hog dog to pieces. Pound for pound, when they get pissed off, they're about the meanest thing around short of a badger.

I think that in texas ya'll have javolina, which is not very dangerous. In the deep south, we have russian boars, as well as big feral hogs, and that is somewhat dangerous. I carry a .40 when scouting and probably should go up to a 10mm.

I have a suspicion that they are much more dangerous on the internet than they actually are in real life.
