The human body is an amazing "computer" and some of the requirements to keep this operating system functioning at its best, are rest, food and water.
The human body is designed to protect itself, if it does not get what it needs, it will get it one way or another.
i.e. Calcium.
Calcium is needed by the body for many functions, and if one does not get enough calcium in their diet, the body will take calcium from itself, such as bone.
One cannot be in a constant state of alert, even in alert conditions, the human body will turn itself off, and then back on.
Motor skills erode if one is tired, thirsty , or hungry.
Some of the best non-firearm weapons, are rest, food, and water, for without a operating system functioning as it should, no other non-firearm weapons are going to function very effectively either.
No tool is ever better than the user of said tool, therefor the user needs rest, food and water in order for mindset and skill sets to work the tools in the tool box.

So, Steve, now that the "wicked weather" has let up some down your way, perhaps you could share some learnin' with us.
After you get some sleep.
Unless you think it belongs over in S&T.
Kind of a toss-up. Ain't no shootin', but stayin' alive when the buildings start to spinnin' has to be worth a lesson or two.

Re: S&T.
Perhaps later a thread in S&T.
Non-Firearms is where I really want folks to see a thread on "non-firearm weapons" and it not be about a gun, edged weapon, cane, flashlight, or any of the other normal "physical items" we read about.
The Tourist brought up in a earlier thread, and Mods agreed, sometimes we need to discuss non firearm items, without the thread having to be about self defense, instead appreciation of good tools, and how tools can be of use for staying safe in everyday situations.
Re: Rest, Food, & Water personally.
Power Naps, heck just even closing one's eyes for few minutes, best if can in a quiet setting, and letting the human body "come down" is very useful.
Foods.
Contrary to what folks believe, I really do eat healthy.
Sure, I appreciate fried pies, and will have a honey bun and Dr. Pepper for breakfast...cookies and the like.
I eat "some" fried foods, still most meat is broiled, baked or done on a grill, I eat a lot of veggies and fruits.
I eat when hungry, and I have a metabolism I am grateful to have, one many are quite jealous of.
I can eat, and not worry about weight.
One thing is I eat when hungry, NOT when the clock says I am supposed to eat.
Re: Wicked Weather.
I went into full tilt boogie hungry, having only had a salad for lunch, and nibbled on a half a apple driving through wicked weather to be more in harm's way to assist.
Stealing from my more serious competition days -
Grapefruit and Orange juice, bananas and water.
Coffee and tea, yes, I like my caffeine.
Buillion cubes, while they have sodium, have less sodium than a can of beef or chicken broth , and broth is great for staying hydrated, and assists in feeling warm, from the inside out, with cooler temps, rain and all.
Water.
I drink a lot of water anyway.
Still water is a serious necessity for the human body.
During serious times, that water is needed for powdered milk, instant coffee, tea, bullion cubes, Tang, ...etc.
i.e
Hypothermia can set in at 40 degrees F.
It is "nasty" outside with the wicked weather, wet and downright nippy.
I am sleep depraved, and we have about 10- 15 minutes before I and some others have to head out, again...
I had to stop, my body said "stop, or I will stop you", not to mention ladies can fuss real good for the only male to "stop or else".
Contrary to what some may think, I can behave and mind when a lady/ladies tell/ask me to.
I got kids, scared, overwhelmed and I am really concerned about them.
I let the ladies handle what needed handling, they can siphon gas just as well as any guy can, they can get stuff loaded up and ...
The 20 oz bottles of water were heated up, using a tea lights in a tin can, heated in a inexpensive saucepan.
I got me some chicken broth, kids had some and one was really wanting hot cocoa, so a package of Swiss Miss with marshmellows was used.
Ladies ended up wanting cocoa to go as well...
Water was not "hot" but warm enough for what we needed.
I snored for about 10 minutes "dead to the world" they said, with a 4 year old snuggled up with me in a recliner, and other kids behaving, bigger ones assisting smaller ones, with blankets and on a sofa or recliner.
My coffee to go, was Maxwell House Instant...
A five star restaurant, could not have served up better broth, cocoa, or coffee.
Words cannot describe how good that was, and kids will eat tuna and chicken from a pull top can.
We had a dawg with us, and he was a very important tool, so for him - a foil pack of one slice of Spam, bottle of water in a makeshift bowl and he was able to function and be of real use.
Everybody stays safe, and that includes the dawg.
"You snore, and you have my child snoring" - one of the ladies.
"Yeah well, she smells like a wet dawg, with chicken on her breath, not a bad thing mind you, actually quite nice if the truth be told" - I replied.
That 10 minutes, was much appreciated...as we got back to business again.
