Grip suggestions for a Model 28-2?

My 28-2 is in exceptional condition and has the original wood grips. I have hesitated to replace the grips, even though they are not really comfortable. I think I would like something a little "fatter" woth finger grooves. I guess I was always afraid that different grips would somehow ruin the looks of this fine gun or detract from it in some way. Has anyone else had a similar experience and what grips do you think I should consider. Thanks.

They don't have the finger grooves but have you considered the Jordan grips from Herretts?

Another company also made some grips named for Bill Jordan and he had BIG hands.

I fit the grooved S&W grips to one of my 28s.

Now I am making a set of "boot grips" for it.

I would be interested in the wood grips.

Thanks

I presume that you have the orginal magna or small service style grips. I would recommend a set of the target grips with the "football" relief cut for the speed loader. These would be, if S&W factory, correct for the M28 and "period" correct. Check out the smith-wessonforums.com.

Maybe a Tyler T grip? All my hand-ejector S&Ws wear them but, your mileage will vary. :)

I have had Pachmayr Presentation grips on my Model 27 for the last 34 years. I have also put them on other Smiths that I have.

Hogue will send you a catalog of their grips both wood and rubber at your request. They have a broad selection.

I'll trade you a Hogue Monogrip and Pachmayr presentation grips for your walnut grips.

I have some target (wood) grips that are much more hand-filling if you are interested. Not pricey - could just trade or something if you want. I'm not using them (I have a 28-2 and have a grip adapter with the stock magna grips).

If you're looking for a more custom fit for your Model 28, you might want to try Jim Badger of Badger Grips. I know he makes grips for the N frame, and I believe he offers custom fitting. I've seen various examples of his work here on The High Road, and they all look very nice to me.
