My first foray into gun porn! If anyone else has anything good of the Persuader (or other 500 variants), feel free to post 'em here.

Yep, my fancy home studio consists of a bed sheet and a Nikon D70. :) Hope you enjoy.

Edit:
Just to give this post some utility, does anyone know if I can use slugs in the 18.5 inch barrel on my Persuader? It's slightly conical, but it doesn't have a choke attached. Thanks.

Slugs are OK. Now go shooting....

Definitely! I used the same barrel and Winchester Super X rifled slugs to take a doe at about 80yds a few years ago. It would shoot those slugs well enough to make an 80yd shot with confidence, with 100yds being about the absolute max (and even pushing it a little)

Now go shoot.

Slugs will work fine... your trigger hand might not feel too good afterward, though. ;)

Yeah, you can shoot slugs. It aint easy with a bead sight though. Well, it could be, if slugs were cheaper and I could afford to shoot more of them...

I've got a 590 thats been beat on a little. Not as much as I'd like, but it has expensive tastes.

Mine's got a side-saddle, surefire, and a Vang safety. I cut to stock down to about a 12.5" LOP, used a youth model slip on butt pad, and stippled the grip area with a woodburning pen. I'd love to have the bbl threaded for chokes, but I have too many projects right now, so that will be done later.

I have a mossberg, and I think it is the 500 persuader model but I can't remember for sure... been years since I've had it out of the safe. It has the ghost ring sights which I like. Can you get mag extensions for these?

Thanks

Not if it's a 500. The barrel screws into the end of the magazine, so it's impossible to extend it.

The way around it is to get a longer magazine and a barrel made for that length of magazine. I have seen "kits" on the internet consisting of an 8-shot magazine and matching 20-inch barrel for the 500.

The 18" barrel version already holds 5+1 anyway, more than enough. All the mag extension does is make it front heavy.

I like having the option to put my 28" barrel on for clay work.

I agree. I just converted my model 500 20" 8-shot to a 18.5" 6-shot by replacing the barrel, magazine, and spring. I like it MUCH better now. Plus, I now have the option of using extra barrels.

Thanks, I think I'll stick with the 18" barrel.

Hmm. Is this a new model 500 with the heat shield or is it a new, blued 590 with a 6-round tube?

My attention is definitely perked, the 500 with the shield is gorgeous. How much that run you, comrade?

My 500 is happy, now if only I could get verification that the thumbhole stock from the 500a will fit my 500 I believe it would be perfect (to me).

I actually accidentally baught this same gun from Turners.
I thought I was getting the bigger magazine version for a sale price, I was wrong, but so much happier cuz I found the 20+" barrel a tad long for what I want.

Plus mine came with a Pistol Grip too!
$270

Hmm. Is this a new model 500 with the heat shield or is it a new, blued 590 with a 6-round tube? That's a 500, and it has a five round tube, plus one in the chamber.

Last time I looked at Mossberg's website, they didnt have the 18.5" 590A1 listed, it may be discontinued, and IIRC it was only available in parkerized finish. I dont think they ever made it in the cheaper version with the plastic parts (like the 20" 590 I own).

That is a sweet set-up! I've got the 500 with the 8-round tube and 20" barrel, and it's a little front-heavy when loaded up but certainly still usable. I've torn up many milk jugs with it,and even a few clay pigeons. If I got another one though, I'd go 5+1, 18". Trade barrels and tubes, anyone?

If you can't find someone to trade, the parts for my conversion to a 5+1 cost just over $100 (magazine tube and spring from Brownells, 18.5" barrel from Outdoor Superstore).

Slight thread drift but same gneral topic ... just picked up an 18.5" 500 yesterday. The receiver is drilled and tapped std from the factory. So what are good options for decent sights? I've read, probably on THR somewhere, that the inexpensivew heat shield with integral sights tends to move around under recoil.

Here's an ad for them...

Any suggestions for decent sights that don't break the bank?

Thanks
