Does anyone know how well Rossi Rifles 243-308-223 shoot. Is there anywhere online to look at accuracy tests. What is your opinion on these guns?

I have a Rossi .22LR/ 20 Gauge combo that I bought real cheap at Dick's to keep as a trunk-gun/backpacking/camping/get-me-some-food-survival-rifle. It has a youth stock on it (turns out the 1" extension does not fit the synthetic model like Rossi says it will), so I know that sacrifices accuracy somewhat. Quality is probably solid, H&R actions are definetely smoother. For a beginner, the safety/decocker is a nice feature- I wish I had one on my H&R .410 as a kid. Mine has fiber-optic sigthts right out of the box which is nice. Fit ' finish is good- not great. It's not the best grouper in the world, but I didn't expect that. I have a feeling I could kill a squirrel or rabbit without a problem;) They will accept a Contender Weaver mount, but I never scoped mine- or benched it for that matter.

Sorry, can't answer your actual questions/

Not on mine: Unfortunately for NEF, since I like NEFs, the Rossis have at least 5 advantages over the NEFs:

1. Lower price
2. Swept-back trigger (allows for lower scope mounting)
3. Safety
4. Better trigger (excellent in fact)
5. Smoother opening/closing

The NEFs have the advantages of
1. More configurations (stocks, bbl contours, etc.) to choose from
2. American made
3. *in most cases*, a little more accurate, perhaps

I haven't wrung out my Rossi in .243, but I can tell you so far, with ME behind the trigger, at 100 yards, with factory ammo (federal vital shok), it's getting pretty decent accuracy - 2 to 3 MOA. Plenty good enough to obtain deer backstrap to 200 yards, with a good field rest. :)

On my Rossi, I notice that I feel more extractor rub against the breechface when I close it up, hence why for me, at least, it is less smoothe. I have never had that problem with an H&R or NEF.

Since the Rossi has a transfer bar (as does the H&R and NEF) any additional saftey is superfelous, unless your uncomfortable lowering the hammer (I was when I was young).

I'm glad to hear that Rossi's have that much potential.

rossi bluing is almost non existent; metal is softer, and heats up faster. Really need to adjust the front take down screw, this greatly affects the accuracy. I had one that like the front screw so loose, that it would free spin if hit.

The H/R single shots are generally the best, in fit , finish , and accuracy.

I have a NEF "Survivor" in .308 with a 22" bull-barrel that is exceptionally accurate.

Here is a pic of my $250 "sniper";

It has a stock and forearm that can be filled with all your survival gear.

I purchased a single shot .223 Rossi a couple of weeks ago from Dicks. With cheap scope and case $300. I figured for $300, if it was real bad I couldn't lose a lot.

Took it to the range yesterday for the first time. Started at 100 yards using Ultramax remanufactured 55 gr cheap ammo($16.00 for 50 rounds). Couldn't locate my shots. Went to 50 Yards and finaly found the point of impact. 24 inches right and 18 inches high. Adjusted the scope and adjusted again and again. Finally got it narrowed down. Went back to the 100 yard range. 10 shots, 3 on the bull the remaining within 6 inches, except 1 wayword shot (my fault). I figure for my 1st time out and cheap ammo and me as the operator the results were better than I had hoped for.

Nice rifle, papa chuck. But I still have to wonder, if they are billing it as a survival rifle, why didn't they include iron sights?
