I started making these for my son's 2nd bithday (the smallest one). My nephews saw it and put in their orders. They are made out of Brazilian walnut for the blades and bolster, hickory and maple for scales and birch dowel for the pins. They were fun to make and I used scrap wood from a bow building project.

Very cool!
I would have loved those when I was young.
Hell, I would love to have them now...

Don't forget to make 'em some boffers as well or you're going to have to replace these pretty pieces in a hurry.

Those look extremely well done. I am impressed at the craftsmanship.
I am concerned at the thought of giving a jabby/pointy object to a very small child. It appears to me that the edge and tip on those is quite thin, almost as thin as real metal knives. I would want toy/training knives to have an edge at least 1/2" wide.
If you can stick it into wood, it's too thin.
If you can make wider versions, I might be interested in purchasing some training tools. The last I heard, my previous custom training tools maker (who made training versions of several of my real knives, as well as things like micarta 6' staves) had moved to Hawaii...

Sorry, the photos might be deceptive. The small one ( for my two year old son) has a rounded end and the edge is very round and smooth. The photo of the knifes sitting sideways was taken vertically on a fence. None of the knives are sharp enough to stick into anything. I didnt take a picture showing the thickness of the edges. The larger knives are for older boys not children.

Got it, thanks for clarifying.
Now, about making some training tools...:)

Look's way better than my attempt at a wooden replica-fighting knife I made in wood shop a decade ago for a history project then. I bet these days I would have never been allowed to do something so threatening or evil:evil:
