My GF brought this home for me from her recent
trip to Burma.

Nice lil thing, ..as i observe patina..and magnets arenīt sticking
i think itīs a silver plated sheath. Wooden inside.
The blade is only good for stabbing and i guess for
easily mounting into the cavity of a fresh cut bamboo-stick
for a spear.

Anyone seen the like?

Cheers,
Mp7.

Dimensions?

Does it have any kind of edge -- or can it be given any kind of edge?

Is there any provision for carrying it, or is it just a tube?

Fascinating knife.

about one foot in length.
Itīs a single-edged dagger.

the blade is relatively thick for being that narrow.
So the edge will never be sumthin u wanna shave with.
Absolutely no carrying-hook or the like.

But an absolute beauty.

...u donīt even think itīs a knife, when u see/grab it.

I think the option of simply shoving it into
a bamboo stick to make an improvised spear
is the best reason for carryin it.

and itīs beauty of course.

I think for the poor people there it is actually
sumthin u carry with some pride....

It looks to me like a variation of the Burmese Dha, which is their national knife & sword.

Main charachteristics are single edge and a round or ovoid hilt. The sheaths are charachteristically ovoid, but can be rounded sometimes.

I think that you have a "tourist special" version -possibly based on a ceremonial dagger. The blade does not look very practical for daily tasks, and if it was really a ceremonial version, it would have been elaborately decorated.

(I spent 6 weeks with the Karen and never noticed anything like that being carried.)
