Paddle holsters are not what I would choose for open carry. The instances where they can be used well for concealed carry are limited (I use one under a suit coat on occasion).

I would also HIGHLY suggest remaining aware of your surroundings too. A person could rip your gun right out of any holster (without retention) faster than they shredded that paddle. If that person can put their hand on your gun before you know he is there, you're hosed. Period.

I feel pretty safe with my SERPA paddle, feels nice and sturdy to me.

Ayoob did a demonstration on one of those Outdoor Channel shows. If someone goes for your holster, don't grab the gun, grab their wrist. I doubt I could describe it very well, but seemed a pretty good technique to learn.

That looked to be a Fobus holster, not exactly high quality. They are not even what I consider "kydex," just cheap injection molded plastic. Paddle holsters are not the best choice for carry, but most quality ones should not break that easily.

I personally love the Blackhawk single retention point Kydex holster. Rugged, fast, and safe. I couldnt see a BG snatching my 5.7 while OC unless he was personally familiar with this holster.....

(It takes a very fluid draw with consistant contact on the release to get this gun out. "man handling" it doesn't help!)

But this cheap FOBUS paddle holster only leaves the house for range trips. It is fastened at the paddle with two metal rods, and lacks all retention features except a basic pressure fit. But the USP does look nice in it!

P.S. Notice the "Forward Tilit" on the Blackhawk? I love the adjustable angle, it lowers the overall printing while under an unbuttoned collared shirt and increase draw speed!

Yes, I saw comments referring to the Blackhawk holster on youtube as well. I think I like it.....

The reason I posted it in the first place is because I myself am strictly interested in Kydex-type holsters or other, similar materials rather than leather and so it got me worried. Thanks for the responses.

a basic martial arts principle is if you have control over someones wrist you can (somewhat) control their hand. This goes on up the arm also to where if you can control someones elbow you can control their wrist and so on. It can be used in various ways to disarm someone of a weapon or to pin their arm so its not as much of a danger to you. I have seen some martial arts schools that advertise gun use techniques for self defense. Could be something useful to check out. But as always discipline and practice are needed for any of these techniques to work well when you actually need them.
