Greetings,
I am looking to put a cheap red dot on my Ruger Super Redhawk 44 Mag.
Here is the special page of this week at CDNN.

Any comments on the BEC and Target Red dots? Are they nice or really crappy? IF none of these is good, which one CDNN (or another seller) is selling that would be nice? I would prefer CDNN because I have an order to do there and I would avoid the shipping cost.
Thank you

I would not recommend a cheap red dot on a .44 mag because of the amount of recoil. Are you hunting with this gun? That would be even more of a reason to avoid it. I've heard good things about millet and you can find them on eBay for $50-60 often. Ultradot is highly recommended, but that definitely bumps you out of the 'cheap' category. I recently decided to hold out for a while until I could afford a decent red dot for my SRH, in the mean time I'm using the 'one ragged hole' rear site, and it's absolutely awesome. Surprising easy to be accurate with. http://www.oneraggedhole.com/ For $25 you get 2 sights, shipped.
If you do decide to try one of the cheaper sights, please report back how it works out for you.

I've done some Internet research on this topic lately. It seems that the Millett red dots are the only sub-$100 electronic sights that get consistently good marks, especially when applied to heavy-recoiling firearms. Other cheap sights are hit or miss (sometimes literally), as it appears that some buyers get good ones and others get lemons. Some of the lemons won't hold zero even on a .22, and some will practically disintegrate on a heavy kicker. So, caveat emptor.

I have an ATN "Digital Ultra" on my .22 target pistol. It's kind of a mid-priced model I guess, between $100 and $200. It has performed flawlessly, except when the battery got low (it would cycle thru the reticles and/or turn itself off on recoil.) I replaced the battery and it was fine. Also the new battery has been going strong for almost 2 years with a lot of use. The original battery that came with it lasted less than 6 months.
It is made in China, for what that's worth. I was disappointed when I saw that on the box. Maybe they are all made in China, like LED flashlights.

What he said. They won't hold up. Trust me. I went through Tasco and BSA and finally got an Ultra-Dot.

I wound up received a fairly inexpensive red dot (TruGlo) which held up pretty well on a 22 pistol and 22 rifle. I tried it out on my M1A for a while, and though fun, the mounting screws came pretty loose and the threads have stripped a bit from recoil to where they won't hold perfectly tight anymore.
Still fun and I still have it around, but it wasn't meant for large recoil and if I were to really want a red dot I'd definitely get an Aimpoint. I tried one for a while, and decided I didn't really have a use for it, but was very impressed with the quality.
