Described the AK-47 as a "machine gun."

I saw the segment replayed on the local news this morning at a doctor's office, I had a good chuckle much to the strange looks of the others waiting to be seen.

:confused: But AK47's are machine guns. Real AK's, that is. Unless in your defininition, anything that can be fired in semi is not a true machine gun. If that is so, then the .50cal M2 is not a true machine gun.

My belief is that a true AK47 is an Assault Rifle (Sturmgewehr) while a Machine Gun is something either SAW-level or higher - typically crew served.

Under US law any automatic firearm is a machine gun. But in military parlance, I believe there is a distinction made between automatic rifles and heavy duty belt fed machine guns like the M240G, etc. So it depends on whose definition you're using.
