Sounds like a great idea, Bogie. We all need fast access to those free gunsmiths! I have rifle that needs a new barrel installed ...

I wonder how many will offer moneyback guarantees?? :neener:

I'm not a gunsmith, but I do need one here in Memphis so I hope your list gets going soon. I have already bookmarked it. Great idea!

I completed the 'close cover before striking match' school of gunsmithing.
They gave me a free listing in the Thomas Registry!

Its a very good idea, getting the names and what type of work they do will help get them business as well as let people know who does what work in their area, many gunsmiths rely on word of mouth only for advertisement and miss out on many customers.

Good Idea... I'm looking for a gunsmith in Beaumont and the only guy I can find is at Gander Mountain, and I just don't want to fool with the large corporation type.

The only state on your list that shows activity (Massachusetts) calls for a download when you click on the link. What's that all about?

Clemson

My only guess is that the page is saved in XHTML format and you have an older browser so instead of displaying the page it is trying to download it. The op should probably save them as *.htm or *.html instead. Even if you are making it xhtml, because it will make it more compatible with older browsers.

Also, this will probably get a little out of hand. I would suggest finding a PHP program that you could easily modify to make the administration of such a site easier, and possibly allow others to rate the smiths. It is a great idea and I wish I had thought of it, but the way you are doing it is going to be hell to administer.

Been doing this sort of stuff for a while so if you need some advice for the site, shoot me a PM... like I said, great idea!

Midway has a fine gunsmith locator and Brownell's has just started one, so you may be re inventing the wheel.
