Which pistol for me?

I am looking to get into pistol shooting, I have shot my dads .22 revolver a few times but want something bigger. It would be used mostly for plinking/target shooting and also SD/HD.

I have been doing some research and have narrowed it down to 7. Since I trust you guys(and gals) so much I am going to let you pick it for me.

The choices are:
Cobra patriot
Glock 23
Glock 26
Sig P250
SW sigma
Stoeger Cougar
Taurus PT 24/7

I want to go with either 9mm or .40SW due to the price of ammo. I dont want this to turn into a debate about which is the better cartridge for SD but I would like you to choose your favorite.

Thanks Everybody

If I may ask, why a S&W Sigma and not an M&P if Glocks are in your price range?

It's kind of a personal preference. I just dont care for the M&P. I know it may sound silly but there is something about it that just doesnt fit me right.

hmm ...

For my $0.02, I'd have to say the Sig P250 ..
Should be a great platform to grow your skills with and as you probably already know, you can (or will hopefully soon) be able to change frames easily (non-serial numbered part) for a semi-custom fit.

Pretty sweet double action only (DAO) type trigger to boot.

Happy trails for whatever you decide.

Of your choices, I picked the G23. Great shooters, perfect size. A G19 would also be a good one:)

Out of those choices I'd go with the Sig P250.

Get the Glock.

You will not regret it!

You forgot CZ.

May I suggest you broaden your approach? I woud like to ask you to look at the CZ lineup, too. As for SiG, there is the interesting surplus P-6 nowadays for less than $300, if you really like SiGs.
But, to not completely de-rail this post, if I had to choose just off that list, I would take the SiG.

I like the Cougar. If you shoot it I believe you will too.

IMHO, glock makes the best 9mm pistols. 17/19/26/34 you can't go wrong...and...S&W makes a Glock wanabee.

If we were talking .40 I'd suggest a Sig or HK. I think they make the best pistols in this caliber. And in .45 it's got to ba a 1911 style.

Id also go with a 9mm Glock.

Cant beat the price of 9mm.

Get 9mm. Cheaper ammo, lower recoil, more rounds per $$ means more practice.

Platform you choose is up to you, as long as it's in 9mm. Good luck.

The Cobra Patriot? Get a Sigma over that, I have a Sigma 9VE and I happen to like it quite a bit, it is flawlessly reliable and not bad for carry.

I voted Sig 250 though, because I love caliber convertible guns and the 250 is the ultimate convertible pistol. But I can't afford one. If you can't afford one either, the Glock 23 from your list would be my next vote, because of the general purpose nature of it, and the ease of conversion to .357 or 9mm.

And I'm with rugerfan, where is CZ? I just bought a PCR and I can't wait to get through all the transfer sillyness. I also have a 97B. Great pistols.

I like a couple of these guns, incl. the Taurus, the Sig, and the Glocks are highly functional. Have heard mixed reports about the Patriot guns (and I greatly dislike their looks), the Sigma seems to be a decent gun, and I've seriously considered the Stoeger Cougar myself, but I voted for the Sig, as I love their pistols, & you can later convert to other calibers quite easily if you so desire.

Price of the pistol isnt really a huge issue (as long as its on the list). you only pay for the gun once but you pay for ammo forever.

I dont like the looks of the CZ. my local gunshop only has a couple but the ones that they had felt huge in my hands. Dont know what model it was but it had an insanely large mag cap.

Go for the Cougar, its a great pistol. The other day I was at home and decided to try it out for CCW. Later on some company came by to visit and we decided to watch a movie... it was about then I remembered I had the cougar on me. My point is that it just disappeared and I forgot I had it on me. The cougar is great gun, I love the way it shoots and the way it feels in my hand. Of course the price is right and the ammo is at least reasonably priced, at least in comparison to 45 ACP, so I can afford to shoot it a little bit.

Just my 2 cents
