Hello all! I'm wondering if many of you own .38 supers out there. If so, where do you buy your ammo? I've been having a hard time finding good deals on .38 super ammo except at one range out here. I'm looking for some decent fmj stuff for the range and JHP for defense. Let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks!

You're not going to like this, but you might want to think about handloading the Super because of the lack of reasonably priced target ammo.
I always bought Mag Tech, decent ammo at a decent price.

Gun shows or reload.
I wish Blazer would produce ammo for this cartridge; it is unfortunate that gun and ammo manufacturers have little interest in this caliber. :banghead:

The cheapest I ever saw was Winchester "white box" when on sale. The Super is a cartridge that you must reload for optimum performance. In recent years they have reduced the loadings on factory Super ammo to the point where it's a joke, almost exactly the same velocity as the old 38 ACP it replaced.
The original Super load was a 130 FMC at 1,300 FPS. Current factory loads run about 1050 FPS. Pathetic. I load 115 JHPS to around 1450 for serious work.
I like the super and have two at the present time. A series '70 Colt:

Here is the Colt shown in an El Paso Saddlery rig.

And next to an RIA in 38 Super (all of my 1911s wear ivory).

You can find it online at various dealers. I just shop around and go with the best price, for the decent quality stuff (wwb, american eagle, etc).
Natchez has gotten the bulk of my orders for it lately, but I'd buy from another reputable dealer for the right price.

Thanks for the replies! What prices are you all generally getting? I'm seeing an average of about 18 dollars per 50.

Atlanta Arms and Ammo (http://www.atlantaarmsandammo.com/) has 38 super in various velocities. Contact them to see if it is too powerful for your gun.
