how would I know if my sights need adjustment

Hey guys,

I have a beretta 92 and usually sometimes my groupings go lower than what I aimed for. Is there a way to know if the sights are wrong or is my aiming? If it needs adjusting the sights how do you guys pick a gunsmith? I get itchy leaving my gun to someone, and afraid if they ???? up the gun more.

thanks,

Well first of all, how much lower do you're shots go, and at what distance.

To correct for low shots you need a higher rear sight. How much higher depends on what the point-of-aim vs. point-of-impact is at a certain distance. Once you determine what's needed I would contact Beretta/USA and see if they don't have a higher sight that will fit the model 92.

"Sometimes" seems to suggest that it is shooter error and not the weapon.

It could be flinching, grip or sight picture or any combination of those three that are causing your problems. If your groups and point of impact are satisfactory during the first few rounds while you are still "fresh" you can pretty much rule out a gun problem.

See where it starts out at the beginning of the session. If it prints low then you need to make some adjustments.

Let someone familiar w/ shooting 92's try yours & see what happens. Also, try shooting your gun from a rest & w/ a variety of ammo. Eliminate possibilities before you try to have sights adjusted or replaced ;)
Sight adjustments are a relatively simple procedure. If you have to have it done, try finding a local Beretta armorer or ask around at the range you frequent or the shop you go to.

Just shoot it from a bench rest. Shoot a few groups that you know had perfect sight alignment and no flinch. See where the group goes. Adjust sights if the group does not go where you want it to.

The bullets that I am using is the Winchester 115gr, don't know if this affects my groupings at all. As for the grip hold, I shoot right handed using a two hand hold but I have a tendency to put my left index finger on the trigger guard.
