I have a CZ Rami which I use Hornaday 124 tap in. Just wondering if the Federal 147 HST might be better less recoil better penitration?
Any thoughts/comments.

Is this a 9mm? Sounds like it.
In absolutely any 9mm whatsoever, 147 gr Remington Golden Sabers are the ammunition to get. I seriously would not even consider carrying a 9mm with anything else. 9mm 147 gr Rem GS basically performs on par with many .40 S&W JHPs.

I know it sounds like I'm overhyping the stuff, but click around on there and other websites that've done ballistics gelatin testing, and really, 147 Rem GS is head and shoulders above everything else in 9mm. Federal HST has some impressive expansion figures, but personally, I find their penetration a bit lacking.
If only all the other calibers were such cut-and-dry decisions.

You need to be concerned about what #1 feeds best and #2 is the most accurate in your gun (not even the next serial number of your gun up or down). There are no true "absolutes" in ammo choice. There are no magic bullets.

The conventional wisdom is to use a lighter weight bullet in a 3" barrel so that it will still be fast enough to expand. You should look at 115 and 124 grain bullets.
I have been experimenting with hot ammo in my 3" guns and find that it is difficult to shoot well.
I will probably switch to non +p 124 grain ammo.

Yeah, go with a light load as a rule of thumb. Don't even worry about expansion until you can get enough penetration out of a bullet.

I use 147gr. Winchester Rangers. I hope I never have to report on their effectiveness.

I like Cor-Bon 115gr +P (assuming you're speaking of 9mm), but have recently switched to Remington 124gr Golden Saber and like it a lot. It is very accurate and has a profile that is conducive to feed reliability.
