SAN DIEGO -- A man was shot to death outside a taco shop early Thursday after yelling at two men who were trying to rob him.
The man and was eating with friends at the Taco Fiesta restaurant in the 4900 block of University Avenue at about 3 a.m. when two men with handkerchiefs covering their faces came up to them, according to police. The masked men told the victim and his companions to empty their pockets, but the victim angrily refused and walked away, according to witnesses.
One of the robbers shot them man in the head with a small chrome-plated handgun. The victim died at the scene. His name was being withheld until his family could be notified.
Witnesses described the one robber as a white man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with blond hair and light eyes. The second robber is described as African-American, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds. The men may have been driving a late model, dark-colored Cadillac, police said.
