Moved from plated to lead hard cast to save some money. Start load for the lead was same as the plated. I got about a 60 fps increase. How much shoudl I lower the charge weight ? Would rather start with a "rule of thumb" than have to make excessive numbers of loads and chrony them all. Trying to stay a little above major in 40 S&W for IPSC. Had it around 950 fps with a 180 gr Berry's plated in my G-35 with 5.5 Grains of Power Pistol. Even moving up that little 50 or 60 fps makes a heck of a difference in the recoil. Where should I start, 10% decrease ?

That's kind of a hard question.

There isn't much lead bullet / Power Pistol load data for a Glock FoTay around.

I think your best bet is to drop .2 or .3 and crono it and see what you got.

With jacketed 180 grain bullets & Power Pistol .5 grain = about 50 FPS.

Real problem is that even 5.5 gr Power Pistol in the 40 is no where near a max load. Powder is not burning completly. MAY try longshot next but have to get through about 1.5 lbs of PP first. Have to get this figured out first to run that powder. Was thinking 10% lower which would be .55 gr. Will round up and just take the 1/2 off then and go for the 5.0 gr load. Need to crimp it more and may seat the bullet back just a hair also to bring the pressures up. Had a couple that did not chamber too. Forgot to readjust the crimp after switching from plated bullets to hard cast lead.

As long as you're not getting leading and accuracy is fine, don't change a thing. Most plated bullets "recommend" using cast lead data anyway.
