Reciprocity with 14 States Starts Today!

GRNC has worked tirelessly for this day and we are proud to have been the lead group in securing the current reciprocity law.

According to the official website of the North Carolina Attorney General:

"As of August 14, 2003, North Carolina law allows residents of other states who have a Concealed Handgun Permit issued by their state to carry concealed handguns in North Carolina if the person's state also grants the same privilege to North Carolinians. Because North Carolina's law on concealed handgun reciprocity is new, the list of states that have agreements with North Carolina is changing and will be updated regularly. North Carolinians who have a concealed carry permit from our state will be able to possess a concealed handgun while visiting states on the list but will be subject to the laws of that state and are responsible for educating themselves about those laws. Similarly, if you have a concealed carry permit from one of the states on this list, you will be able to possess a concealed handgun while you visit North Carolina. However, while you are in North Carolina you will be subject to all of our state's laws governing the carrying of a concealed handgun..."

The current states listed are as follows:

Arkansas
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Idaho
Kentucky
Michigan
Montana
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Dakota
Tennessee
Utah
Virginia

Scroll down to "Concealed handgun reciprocity" and click on it. To view the list of states with which NC has reciprocity, follow the link near the bottom of the page. This list will be revised as more states are added.

Of course July 14th would have been better as I had to run down there last month. Oh well, a delayed happy dance is better than none at all.

What a turnaround! Thanks to all in NC who led the charge and fought the battle. Now, what's up with SC?

Although NC currently has no reciprocity agreement with Alaska, Alaska does accept NC permits.

Too bad all my family is in Connecticut. Waiting for my non-res permit to come through, but it won't get here before my visit (paperwork blunder).

Maybe I'll go for a long drive this weekend. :D
