We see ya when you are a lean mean fight'n machine. Take care be safe and most of all keep your mouth shut.
Look at the bright side, you finally get to play with guns. Everything else is just that, everything else.
I could use BASIC to trim myself down a bit.

Have ... er ... fun.
Actually years from now you will look back at it as fun (provided you don't shoot yourself in the foot or anything similar :D ) and as something that you are glad to have done.
Check in when you can.

when they went in.
My boy is still down range in Iraq, digging out Mig 25's in the desert and having other fun experiences.
Now about basic...
Keep your mouth shut and let the guy next to you ask the stupid question that will get him down for 25.
Don't look for logic in the training regimen. Once in a while it will make sense but when you are puffing and sweating from a 3 to 5 mile run back from the range in the heat, all you want is the next breath of air.
You are about to do something that will stay with you to the day you die. You will remember faces and names of some of these people, even if you never see them again.
You will also learn to apprceiate the rare instances of peace and quiet you might find as well as the simple things like having the time to sit, enjoy a cup of coffee and a newspaper.
Most of all you are joining the ultimate "band of brothers". People who have carried arms in the defense of freedom. Welcome to the club, the dues can be very high but must be paid regularly.
Best of luck and as we say round these parts, Hooah!

Micro,
Good luck and be safe. I have some friends that I made one summer that had just gotten off their IDF services. Some very fun and interesting guys and a girl. And boy was she GREAT.
If all women that come out of the IDF have that level of fitness, confidence and intelligence, I think you might enjoy our time more then you believe.
Give us some good reports on the toys they let you play with when you get back.

Why not?? Are you the "only son" in your family? Or, is it because you don't meet the physical requirements of combat service??

Good luck, Micro! Chiming in to add my 2 cents worth of advice, always drink more water than you think you need. Lots more. Carry some extra water purification tabs with you wherever you go in the field just in case you get the chance to refill your canteens.

Good luck.
Now, I'll throw my two cents worth of advice to ya.
1) If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
2) Don't volunteer for nothing!
3) There may be no such thing as a stupid question, but there are questions which will get you smoked like a cheap cigar.
4) If you can see them, they can see you.
5) Friendly fire, isn't!
6) Concealment doesn't necessarily mean cover.
7) Chicks dig scars and war stories, especially if they are related.
8) Surrender is not an option.
9) The best laid plans fall completely apart when the first shot is fired.
10) You may not like the person next to you, but remember, they'll be the one covering you when the SHTF.
11) Never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy.
12) Redundancy is a good thing. Always have a back-up, plans, equipment, etc.

Okay, one of you language wizards needs to give a translation of what is on the banner that the IDF Soldiers are holding.
Right off hand I would think it has something to do with paratroopers account of the parachute.
Further info cause I'm barely literate in my native language.
