you shoot it yet? how do you like it.. I have to say the $239 price at CDNN is very tempting.

I just got the scope mounted last night...
for $239 and a FFL transfer its a really good deal
i bought mine Online via www.Galleryofguns.com and selected a local dealer that priced it at $250
The next day i had a fed ex tracking number and 3 days later it was mine!
too cool!!!

A folding handle straight pull bolt? Does it "spring" back so you don't have to fold it?

Sweet! I handled on at a gunshow a few months ago,it seemed very well made and the straight pull was slick. Let us know how well it shoots. I`d love to have one in .22 Mag. :) Marcus

its really smooth and very fast
theres no return spring
i just thumb & fore finger grasp it and snick snick
i think the biathloners bump it with the back of their hand
and close the bolt with their palm
the trigger is a short pull crisp 3 pounder
the barrel is nicely floated and the action sits on 2 pillars
the recessed crown is really a hollow ground 1/2 a sphere
wanna see its uncle?

actually ht cycle i've seen is the shooter fires, lifts their hand up and back catching the bolt knob with the side of the trigger finger, bolt opens, rand rotates back down reverse of the up stroke thumb catches other side of the knob closes the action.......
see that motion with both this gun and the more "true straight pull" Anshutz models.

What kind of scope mounting system? Is that an 11mm dovetail? Sorry, don't recognize the scope either...type?

I thinking about getting into a 22lr rifle. I want cost effective solution...accuracy at a good price. Thinking right now of the Biathlon basic vs. CZ 452? any opinions? BTW gunfucious: we are anxiously waiting for you full range report! :)

I, personally, would consider the CZ.

the rifle comes equipt with a length of weaver rail on the top
i mounted the 3-9 Simmons 22 Mag scope with medium Leupold PRW Weaver rings
http://www.swfa.com/riflescopes/simmons/index.html
http://www.gunaccessories.com/LeupoldOptics/MountingSystems/PRWRings.asp
CZ's prolly have a bit nicer wood work
and the mini mauser action is really nice
i am prolly going to order a Boyds Laminated Blank and make a 1 piece SV99 stock

I'm sure it will shoot like my M60 Marlin semi auto with 3/4 inch groups at 50 yards,
it has all the right features

That review really raised my hackles. Who tests a competition rifle using all hi-vel ammo? I couldn't believe it.
If that gun had sights, I'd own one.

What odd is there is an Izhmash "Biathlon" built with iron sights:
http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/bi7-2.shtml
http://www.izhmash.ru/pix/bi7-2.jpg
They could prolly import the above one with the Basics stock at a slight price increase
THe other really nice thing about the Izhmash is that it comes with a cleaning rod, brushes, jag, pin punch and screwdriver
all you need is an old Tshirt and some ammo and you are RTG!

Betweeen the Biathlon Basic and the full-up Biathlon. Wonder if the Basic could be retrofitted at a later date with the Biathlon's stock?

there is a diference in the other rifles safety actuator...
check out how my Leupold rings align:
The Leupold PRW rings have 2 notches, but the side plate only aligns with the upper notch
the lower notch appears to align the sideplate with the Izhmash rail better...
The scope is quite secure but the lower notch would look cleaner

Does anyone have recommendations for iron sights that could be mounted on the Biathlon Basic? I'm puzzled that only the full-up Biathlon comes with them. The Biathlon Basic looks like a fun rifle for targets, plinking, and practice for SR competition.

Call EAA customer service, and ask.
I bought one three weeks ago, and I mounted a Bushnell red dot sight on it its great for knocking down the 50 yard rimfire silouhettes, I even got 5 chickens in a row!!!!

I just put down $50 on a Biathlon Basic today. I knew I shouldn't have gone in the gunstore. It was sitting there. Brand new. $239. The same price as CDNN and no shipping and no waiting.
I already have 2 CZ-452's, 4 Mossbergs, a Marlin and a Remington. You can never have too many .22's...
A guy that works at the other shop in town has one and is also a benchrest shooter, so when he talks accuracy I listen. He showed me some amazing groups from his gun. Can't wait to try mine out. I have been hearing about them on the net for a long time, seems like people are now starting to get the word.

I'd love to get one, if they'd make LH action an available option. I know that they've made them as I've seen them being used by competitors in the Olympics, Pan Am Games, etc. on TV.
So far, no reply from EAA concerning future production or special order in "basic" trim.
As a certifiable .22 rifle junkie, all I can say is "HEAVY sigh" .

well, there is a hunk of weaver rail on the back end
that a detachable iron sight could sit upon
or you could prolly remove it and mount something more clasic on the reciever
the muzzle could be smithed with a dovetail
or you could get one of these:

Well, I'm glad I came back and checked up on this thread. Looks like everyone is happy with the accuracy and the price is right. I'm going to pick one up locally to support my closest range, even though it's a little more expensive than getting through CDNN and having it transfered. Still $266 + tax isn't too bad.
