I’m going to a gun show in two weeks and one of the things on my list of interests in a double barrel.

I guess I’m mellowing with age because they never floated my boat until lately. I know that point of aim v.’s point of impact can be an issue with some of the sxs and I was wandering if there was a trick to spotting a gun that may have this trouble, at the table?

Would you be able to see a disparity between the barrels with the naked eye? Could you use a micrometer to measure the distance from the bead to the outside of each barrel, if both had the same choke?

Thanks

TTBOMK, there's no way to tell if there's convergence probs w/o shooting the thing. And LOTS of doubles have these probs. That includes better makers.

These probs can be fixed, but it's neither easy nor cheap. Sorry...

horse, the POI issue is not a big deal, I would just stick with better quailty of gun. That is both in condition and a quailty brand, stay away from anything with cut tubes or looks refinished. To check your POA try mounting the gun with both eyes closed, open you eyes if your looking down the rib, the stock fit isn't too bad, if you eye looks down the barrel you'll need stock work. Hope this helps.

There's no way that I know of to tell if both barrels will shoot to the same place without patterning. I've seen a couple of higher grade guns that didn't shoot into the same area code, fortunately neither belonged to me.

Briley can make eccentric chokes that will bring patterns together. The next course of action is to have the barrels reset and this is an expensive proposition with no guarantee of success.

You pays your money and you takes your chances. If you can get the seller to offer a 3 day inspection period that includes shooting the gun a trip to the patterning board is mandatory.
