I`ve been looking for a new scope to mount on a target rifle and WOW, many, many choices. I`m not one to go broke on this type indeavor but I`d like to get a decent scope. I`ve done a lot of research to find out what the real difference is. The most concerning difference is the glass. When I checked out the details of the glass in a few scopes I found out that most optics companies use very similiar, if not the same glass. For instance, Swift uses BaK7 or BaK4 Schott glass which has only a few thousanths of difference in Barium Crown Prisms and other measurements concerning the focused light, etc.,than the BK7 which is used by Leupold.... THOUSANTHS. The measurements are nearly identicle during the day and alter within the .000`s ,as mentioned in low light conditions. Another concern was the structure material. I found that most companies use the same gaged aircraft aluminum so nothing major there. The seals used to keep the gas in and the fog out are also the same with most optic companies so nothing there. Basically, most scopes are generally made with the same materials so the only difference that I can think of is the difference in who`s actually, hands on, building them.
Can you tell me a difference that you know that would make me pay $1000.00+ for a scope instead of $500.00+ without losing sleep?:uhoh::confused::eek:
