And yes, that is him. I think. Of course you can't really trust the internet.

A classic pose, which provided much comic relief (and fodder) at The Firing Line. A moment's silence, please... OK, on with the Algore bashing. :D

Is that really Al Gore or is this a well-circulated joke?

At the Second Amendment Sisters rally in Washington, countering the MMMs, a guy had that picture as a sign with the caption 'Algore demonstrates his knowledge of firearms safety'. He also had it outside the White House that weekend.

Yes, it is real, or at least I got it from the real official Gore campaign website. At first I wondered if the site had been oh-so-subtly hacked, but the picture remained up for the whole campaign. Yes, they CHOSE this particular photo to symbolize his military experience....

There is a version floating around the net that I created at the time, with the text "Do you trust this man to tell you about firearm safety?"

I have got to say that you are being a little ridiculous. First, The M16 that he has Does not have a magazine inserted (true that doesn't rule out a round in the chamber, but be realistic). I know that hunch very well. That is 50+ pounds of gear on his back, and he wants to get that rifle sling over his arm, but cant kneel because that will kill his knees. I think his selector switch is visible in the photo and is on safe. I know about rule #1, but I have been where he is standing and done the EXACT SAME THING.

There are plenty of good reasons to bash Gore This isn't one of them.

The photo was supposed to be about Gore's service in Veet-Nam, by gawd... musta been kinda chilly there...

You can only hide so much booze or weed in the bore of a .223.

I wasn't in Vietnam, but I can imagine it got very cold. But I wasn't there. Could anyone confirm whether it got cold at night there?

Booze and illegal substances go in the butt-plate ;)

I was thinking of saying he was trying to load the M-16 like a BB gun or trying to drop bullets down the barrel, but Digial Warrior is probably right. At least he did serve in the armed forces. I kind of feel sorry for Gore. He might have been a good leader if he had figured out what he believed in and stuck with it, but his beliefs changed with the wind. Gore-A Political Life by Saunders really gives you a good look at the way his political stands changed depending on who he was trying to please.

Who is Al Gore ....

Oh yeah, now I remember :)

Well, to give him a little credit, I'm not sure but what the muzzle is actually beyond his body, and is not pointing at anything other than the sky.

OTOH, maybe Darwin missed an opportunity :p

Hmmm. Yeah, it's Friday, but we ought to be able to do better than this.

Anyone up for some Clinton bashing?

"Booze and illegal substances go in the butt-plate "

So that's what it's for. And to think that all this time I've...nevermind.

He served in the military, you got to respect him for that.

Serving in the military is quite respectable, but desiring to take my firearms away from me is not. As to the worthiness of the thread, there are better threads even though it's a friday :) There's the sniper loose in WV, and there's that power outage stuff - maybe it was a terrorist with a sniper rifle... didn't the VPC warn about Barretts being used to target power generation stations?

So did Timothy McVeigh & John Mohammed, and I don't respect THEM either... :barf:
