The local gun shop a a couple of used 500's for $199. The stock and slide shows some wear, but the barrel is clean and the action looks good. They all come with a vented barrel and one looks like its in HD setup with a short vented barrel. Are these a good deal?

New ones sell in my area for $50 more. I passed a .410 Mossberg 500 at $150 yesterday though I should have bought it. If it was a cruiser or a persuader model I would have just for fun.

Prices vary by region. But down here, a new 500 in HD mode is about $220. So the price, while not bad, isn't great.

I had passed on them. I'm tying to decide on my next purchase and I'm still missing a shotty, a pistol and a target/MOA rifle.

I'd get the Mossberg combo them with the 18 1/2" barrel as well as the sporting barrel with interchangeable chokes. This should cover most if not all of your shotgunning needs.

Not a screaming deal, but an OK price.
And while some folks sneer at Mossbergs, I'm not one of them. They're good, reliable, inexpensive shotguns with few flaws.

They are great for a 1st shotgun or an extra shotgun. My neighbor recently got the riot 8 shot version used but new looking for $150.

I got a 20ga with two barrels, but fixed chokes for $100 last year. many 500's have been produced, deals are out there. My 20 had some issues though:( I sold it and kept one of the barrels.

A little too high, but then shops can't give them away and stay in business.

I agree. I bought my Mossy 500 Turkey gun NIB for $180 some 25 years ago. It was a good price then and has never failed me even tho it has received minimal maintenance. My youngest took his Tom with it two weeks ago today. I'd spring for the extra $50 and get new.

I got my 500 with a turkey barrel, 3 chokes, a scope, and a trophy slug barrel for 270. 200 for one new isn't that bad around here, but you could find one used in good shape for probably 50 less and it would shoot the same.

Check Gunbroker, I just picked up one for $100 plus shipping and FFL transfer fee. My guy does a transfer for cheap, so I am only in it $135 OTD.

They have fall deals all of the time with two barrels, one of which is rifled. I think I'll wait until then. Thanks all.

I bought the $100 Mossberg last year at a dealer. They are making money, believe me. I knew a pawnshop operator like 5-6 years ago that told me he gives $20 or so for Mossbergs.

Picked up Ex-Sheriffs Dept; 500, 18.5" for $99.00, bit of rust on the Barrel, smooth action. Shot a bit high, swapped bead for a taller fiber optic, cured.

I bought mine for $200 about eight years ago. It was in perfect shape, though.

It's a good deal. I love the Mossberg 500, it's a great gun that is built like a tank.
I've had my Mossberg 500 for over 4 years and not 1 single jam.
