"cheap" Emerson vs. "cheap" Benchmade

I have decided to buy either the Emerson Endeaver OR the Benchmade Ascent as my new eveyday carry knife.

By Emerson and Benchmade standards, they are "low cost" knives, and I don't want to spend alot on a knife I will use on a regular basis, or may even lose.

:what: :what: :what:

Between the Emerson Endeaver or the Benchmade Ascent, which do you think would make a better everyday carry knife?

:D :D :D

Thanks...

Do you have pictures of the Ascent? I thought about buying an Emerson as a beater. Or I should just use my Leatherman as the beater....

By the way, does the Endeavor come with a pocket clip like the Benchmade Ascent?

I'm sure the Emerson comes with a clip, not sure if it's reversible. The SWAT mag out right now (or last month??) has a staff report on them.

I like the thumbholes better than the studs (although I am one) as far as folding knives.

I can't comment on the Emerson as I don't have one, but I have carried the large Ascent for close to 9 years now. Back then, it was known as the Eclipse.

Basically, the Ascent is a watered down AFCK. Same clip point blade style, used to be made out of the same steel (ATS-34), Zytel handles instead of G10, and it was a lockback rather than a linerlock. On my version the clip is reversible for either tip-up or tip-down carry.

I love the Spydie hole! Makes ambidextrous opening a real breeze. I don't think I could live with a knife that didn't have one.

I like my Ascent. It's a beater I can carry all the time no matter where I am. I use it hard, so it's not as "pretty" as it once was, and it was never really "pretty." The clip had to be taken off when the tapped liners fell out of the screw holes. The spydie hole is great. The blade profile is great. The thickness of the grind, however, makes a really good edge a la Spyderco next to impossible without major reworking.

I guess I need to try an AFCK!

Why not the Griptillian. For the price of a "cheap Emerson". You can get a Grip for about the same price with the all might "Axis lock". BM wins hands down on customer service. (I had called EKI because I needed a new blade for a CQC 7B and they wanted 65 bucks!!!!!, BM charges 25 to replace any blade and with my experience they have replaced many of my old knives to current specs. ) Can't go wrong with BM.

Yeah, compared to Striders, Emersons ARE cheap (read: affordable)!

Skunk, the stud who carries an Emerson Cmdr daily....

What the hell David, it's only money!
