My MD friend just moved to AZ Gold Canyon area... desert in back yard and mountains further out.

He saw a couple locals in a store today open carrying "heavy pistolas".

What's with open and CCW in AZ? Shall issue? Easy? Fees? Blah, blah.

Appreciate your input.

Thanks,

-Andy

Open carry is legal in AZ

AZ is a Shall issue CCW state and very easy to get.

Training requirement for the initial CCW course is a minimum of 16 hours, conducted by an approved organization within the borders of Arizona (ARS 13-3112 N 1). The renewal course must be a minimum of four hours.(ARS 13-3112 L). Courses include a written exam and shooting "qualification," each of which requires a minimum score of 70% to pass. The written exam consists of 30 questions and covers the six areas of training required by the statute. The "qualification" consists of five rounds fired at five yards and five rounds fired at 10 yards. There is no time limit.

Upon successful completion of the course the instructor signs and stamps the student's application, which must be mailed along with the completed fingerprint card and certified check, cashier's check or money order for $50. Most applicants will receive their permit within one month, frequently sooner.
