I'm thinking about the Savage 10FCM Scout Rife in .308 as a hunting/plunking/target rifle. I'm not expecting a tack driver.
Does anyone have one who could comment on it? Also, the picture Savage shows, has the scope mounted on the barrel. Can the scope be mounted in the traditional way, back over the bolt? Thanks for your feedback....;)

Sounds like you should just buy the regular Savage, with a conventional scope mount.

I don't see any pictures on the Savage website that shows a 10FCM utilizing a Scout-Mount. Can you post a link of it?

All standard Savages utilize the traditional scope mount over the bolt. Now, in the past Savage has offered a 10FCM Scout, which does utilize the Scout-Mount.

Either way, you can expect very good accuracy and a nice trigger. I shoot a 10FLP and am quite pleased with it.

Scope can be mounted on the receiver conventionally and you can put a regular rear sight on it as well. I had one of the new ones for a few weeks and just sold mine yesterday. It is a well made gun but just did not do what I wanted a small gun to do.

While short and compact the rifle is a lot heavier than listed in the Savage catalog. They show it at 6 1/4 lbs but according to my scales was almost a full pound heavier. While accurate enough for a scout rifle my Tikka weighs less with a scope mounted than the Scout rifle weighed without a scope and is a lot more accurate.

I would not advise anyone to not get the gun. It has a lot going for it and the new stock and recoil pad are a big improvement. The primary reason for the weight difference is because Savage is using a steel trigger guard and bottom metal now along with a very good steel detachable magazine. I'm sure a lot of people would really like that but the rifle was just too heavy for my needs.
