So I picked up a maverick 88 about 3 years ago and while it has served me well, I think it is time to step up to an auto. It won't be used hard just a little skeet, dove hunting, and probably a little duck. No slugs are needed. I held a supernova the other day and loved the feel of the front stock but it is a pump. I probably wont use this thing but twice a year so I want to keep the price down a little. The benelli autos are a little expensive for my needs. Maybee something more like a franchi. Any sugestions?

Moving from a pump to an autoloader isn't aways a move up. But moving to a higher-grade shotgun usually is. If it's skeet & dove/duck hunting you're after, try for the stock (not necessarily the action) that fits you best.

The Beretta 3901 that is sold by Wal Mart for about $539 would be ideal for you. It is synthetic stocked and won't win any beauty contests (IMO), but it is extremely reliable. It is essentially the 390 Beretta without as much polish and shine. Personally, I think the 390 Beretta is even better than the 391 Beretta. It will do everything the 391 will do, and is simpler to clean and maintain (though both are easy).

I ended up going into the local shop and holding a beretta urika 2. It felt real good so I think I might go that route. It was right under $800 i belive.
