I live in Washington state and I have a CCW licence. I am going to go to Oregon and apply for CCW because they reconize Washington under the reciprosity law. Too bad for Washington , because from now on all I need is Or. CCW to be covered in both states. Part of Oregons application proccess is to submit a written letter stating why you want to carry. I have read what a few of my friends have written. Self protection..fear of animals out in the forrest...ect. Thinking about what it is that I want to say is summed up in one word that I hope thay will accept. RESPONSIBILITY.

Where do you live in Washington, and where do you intend to apply?

Did you mean that the Oregon permit is recognised by Washington? Handgunlaw still says Oregon won't recognise my WA license.

Just checked the SAF list and they still say Washington recognises no other state.

Just picked this up from CCRKBA.org
Washington (honors) LA, MI, MS, NC, OH, OK, UT

Lonnie wilson- I live in Clark County. I will apply over in Gresham at the Sheriff Office. They are near 182nd. and Burnside. Armedandsafe - thank you for saying what I mean. You are correct.

You need a "compelling business
interest or other legitimate demonstrated need."
Do NOT try to get one in Multnomah County.
If you don't have luck getting it you might want to get a UT permit. There are a few places in OR and WA that fufill UT's requirements (and are actually aimed at getting your UT permit since both states seem to distrust each other's residents so much).

armedandsafe -

Just checked the SAF list and they still say Washington recognises no other state.

Did you mean Oregon?

I have to wonder if Washington doesn't recognize my Oregon permit because Oregon won't recognize Washington permits. Tit for Tat.

At least I can get a shall-issue Utah non-resident permit all by mail that Washington will honor. Unfortunately for you Washington residents, you must rely on the good graces of an Oregon CLEO.

Mark K.C. -

Surely you don't intend to use the R-word? That's not good enough. I tried "for self-protection while hunting and fishing" about 25 years ago when it was still may-issue for residents. Didn't fly, but only because the sergeant pointed out that that particular reason is already valid as a reason to carry concealed. Paraphrasing - Licensed hunters and fishers while in the pursuit of these activities and while in transit to or from.

Do you have a good reason to carry lots of cash while in Oregon? Even better would be carrying lots of cash for business purposes.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Don't discount Multnomah County. Sheriff Guisto from my understanding has directed them to be a little more lenient on issuing to Washington residents.

If you want to get the training required for a Utah permit, we are holding a class soon:

Don't get smart with the letter. Just state the intended purpose that we all carry a firearm: protection.

I don't post good cause letters in here for a reason, insofar as your own good cause is your own good cause. I have a threadbare one that is based solely on laws, and you add your own situation. Mark, check your PM's, please.

I got my permit several years ago and renewed it last year at the Washington County Jail and court house. No problems! Just remember that Oregon is shall issue for residents, but "may issue" for non-residents. For that reason alone, if I were you, you might want to stear clear of Multnomah county, although you might not have any problem.

Just my two cents.

It's my right.

Freedom.

Woody

Look at your rights and freedoms as what would be required to survive and be free as if there were no government. Governments come and go, but your rights live on. If you wish to survive government, you must protect with jealous resolve all the powers that come with your rights - especially with the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Without the power of those arms, you will perish with that government - or at its hand. B.E. Wood

Oregon and WA dont honor each other, it sucks. I am getting my UT for Washington.

As for reasons, I have been told they are easier on Washington residents than others.
