I live in redding and I was going down south to see a friend in San Jose, well fremont rather, and I thought I might try to make it to a sporting clay course or even just do a little trap shootin, is thier any place to shoot within 30 miles of fremont?

Here is a web link to help you out. When I visit my close friends in SJ/Milpitas/Fremont area, we usually go pistol shooting at Target Masters in Milpitas or Reed's in SJ.

In Fremont, the closest would be Targetmasters in nearby Milpitas off of HWY880.

San Jose is on the other side of the Bay from Fremont and would take a bit of a drive. If you still want to go, then Reeds off of HWY101.

HOWEVER these are both indoor ranges.
The closest clay ranges are Richmond Rod & Gun -Richmond, CA, Chabot Gun Club -Castro Valley, and Los Altos Rod & Gun, Los Gatos, CA

Never been there, but Coyote Valley Clays in Morgan Hill (just south of SJ) is supposed to be pretty good.

Lots of options for you. Fremont is a bit north of Targetmasters, #4 on the link hops provided. Reeds (#15) is a much nicer indoor range than Targetmasters. For trap, rifle and pistol, try the Sunnvyale Gun Club(#19). Coyote is a great clays facility (#10), but quite a ways south of Fremont, closer to 50 miles than 30. Los Altos Gun Club (#11) is outstanding with spectacular scenery, but also a bit of a hike from Fremont.

thanks for the choices, my friend has an aunt in los gatos I might insist we go visit her... the los altos gun club looks like my best bet, everything I could ask for. do any of you live in that area or are going to be there around the 23-26th? maybe we could do a little shootin :)

I think the date your fishing for isn't happening this time, but as an FYI, you might consider driving down for this:

The S.F. Bay Area THR shoot-'em-up. (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34677)

Thread includes spectacular pics of the LAR&GC range, and what kind of fun/trouble we get into.

I'd take you up on that shootin' offer, but I'm going to Eureka that weekend, so someone else will have go have fun with you.

Reeds (indoors) in Santa Clara next to Hwy101, Sunnyvale R&GC on Stevent Canyon Road just opposite Stevens Creek Dam and County Park.
Los Altos Gun Club up on the Skyline above Saratoga is the biggest, with a tincan range and shotgun ranges as well as rifle and pistol ranges out to 100yds.
Sunnyvale has seperate ranges for centerfire and rimfire whish is better for a rimfire addict like me than being pelted with someone's hot SKS brass at Los Altos. I also shoot rimfire rifle at Reeds in the Winter time... They don't mind long guns as long as they are either rimfires or pistol caliber centerfire... You gotta shoot offhand = no shooting benches, only countertops, but OK when you just HAVE to get in some shooting time;)

Reed's or Targetmasters would be my picks if indoors is your thing. Los Altos or Sunnyvale for outdoor enthusiasts.

Hmmm... is my humor really that bad, or am I just really old? ;)
